Chris Hughton always knew the weight of the role he was stepping into. When he took over as Ghana’s head coach, he was well aware of the pressure that came with leading the Black Stars.
Having previously served as a technical advisor, Hughton was appointed as Otto Addo’s successor after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Tasked with revitalizing the four-time African champions, he signed an 18-month contract. However, things did not go as planned.
Under his leadership, Ghana suffered another disappointing AFCON campaign in Ivory Coast, exiting in the group stage. The results were not enough, and soon after, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decided to part ways with him.
Reflecting on his tenure in an interview with Voice Online, Hughton admitted he knew the expectations that came with the job.
“I knew the pressure of taking the job when I took it, and if you’re not getting the right results, then you will know about it,” he confessed.
With his departure, the GFA turned back to Otto Addo, offering him a three-year contract with the option of a two-year extension. Meanwhile, Hughton remains unattached, awaiting his next challenge in the footballing world.

On a chilly evening in Spain’s Primera Federación, an 18-year-old Ghanaian sensation announced his arrival in style.
