As the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup intensifies, Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Schaeffer has issued a strong call to action, urging the team to approach their upcoming qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar with unwavering confidence and a winning mentality.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s media team, Schaeffer emphasized the need for a positive mindset, stressing that every player must feel motivated and proud to represent the national team.
“We must enter these two matches with belief and determination. When players come to camp, they should feel happy, motivated, and fit—without concerns about the pitch or facilities. A strong mentality is key,” Schaeffer stated.
Currently sitting second in Group I after four matches, Ghana has a golden opportunity to take the top spot with back-to-back victories. With the dream of playing in the United States, Canada, and Mexico on the line, the Black Stars must seize the moment and take a giant step toward World Cup qualification.

With just days to go before the resumption of the Ghana Premier League on March 7, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Club Licensing Committee has rejected six stadiums following its latest inspection, citing safety and security concerns.
Among the affected venues is the iconic Baba Yara Stadium, home to Asante Kotoko, which has been deemed unfit due to the lack of a designated safe zone. If the issues are not addressed promptly, the Porcupine Warriors could be forced to play home games away from Kumasi—posing financial and logistical challenges.
The University of Ghana Stadium, used by Hearts of Oak, Legon Cities, and Accra Lions, also failed to meet safety requirements. Other rejected venues include Berekum Chelsea’s Golden City Park, Basake Holy Stars’ AAK Ampanian Stadium in Nzema, and Young Apostles’ Wenchi Sports Stadium.
Affected clubs must either secure alternative venues or implement necessary safety improvements to comply with GFA regulations. The crackdown follows the introduction of the GFA’s Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025, prompted by recent security concerns, including the tragic stabbing of an Asante Kotoko fan in Nsoatre earlier this month.
With strict sanctions in place for non-compliance, clubs must act swiftly to meet the required standards, as the GFA maintains its stance that safety cannot be compromised.

Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin has been dealt a devastating blow after suffering a serious knee injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
The Rayo Vallecano center-back sustained the injury during a La Liga clash against Sevilla, limping off in the 35th minute of the 1-1 draw. Spanish media reports confirm that the 26-year-old, who has been a standout performer this season with 24 appearances in 26 matches, will be sidelined for months.

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, provided that lingering concerns over team leadership are resolved.
Ghanasoccernet reports that head coach Otto Addo has appointed Jordan Ayew as the new captain, replacing his older brother, Andre Ayew, who has been absent from the squad since March 2024. In Ghana’s last match against Sudan, Mohammed Kudus led the team in Thomas Partey’s absence. However, Partey has declined a permanent leadership role, with Alexander Djiku stepping in as Ayew’s deputy.
Speaking on Luv FM, Appiah, now head coach of Sudan, emphasized the importance of unity within the squad as they prepare for crucial qualifiers this month.
“For me, I’m happy that our position in the group is still good,” he said. “I also hope what I’m hearing is true—that they are sorting out the captaincy issue. If there are other problems, I hope they resolve them as well, but I’m not with the team, so I don’t know everything.”
“If they settle the captaincy situation, then we are in a good place because the team has quality. But without unity, we cannot achieve anything. I hope and pray that Ghana will qualify for the World Cup.”
The Black Stars resume their qualification campaign on March 17, hosting Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar in another crucial fixture.
Ghana is currently tied at the top of Group I with Comoros, both sitting on nine points after four matches.
