Bournemouth Striker Reflects on World Cup Heartbreak and Ghana’s Football Passion
Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo understands the passion and expectations that come with representing the Black Stars. In a recent interview with Premier League TV, the AFC Bournemouth star admitted that the pressure from Ghanaian fans is immense—but justified—given the team’s talent and potential.
“There’s a lot of pressure from the fans because we’ve got a good team, and we’ve got to do well. I agree with them. It’s a very good team, so there was a lot of pressure behind it,” Semenyo acknowledged.
Looking back at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he couldn’t hide his disappointment over Ghana’s loss to Uruguay, a match that could have secured their place in the knockout stages.
“I think we needed to beat Uruguay to get through. Obviously, we lost. It was just frustrating. You look into the stands, and all the fans were frustrated, angry, cussing at everyone—and that’s just the country in a nutshell. They just love football. Their week is determined by how well we do.”
Currently in top form, Semenyo is expected to be named in Otto Addo’s squad for Ghana’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March. With the Black Stars eager to prove themselves, Semenyo’s passion and drive could play a key role in their campaign.

A New Era at Arsenal?

Brazilian club Grêmio has officially secured the signature of Francis Amuzu, bringing the Belgian-Ghanaian winger to South America in a two-year deal that runs until December 2026. Ghana’s newly appointed Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has wasted no time in setting his agenda in motion. Just days after assuming office, he met with officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in what is seen as the first step toward revitalizing Ghanaian football.
The meeting follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who urged the Minister to prioritize sports development, starting with the GFA.
“I expect that you concentrate on building up all the sporting disciplines. I know the Ghana Football Association would be a good place to start to make sure that we return the Black Stars to their glory days,” President Mahama said during Kofi Adams’ swearing-in ceremony.
With Ghana’s football landscape facing challenges, the Minister’s engagement with the GFA signals a commitment to reviving the Black Stars and strengthening football structures nationwide. Beyond football, Adams is expected to engage other sports stakeholders in a bid to ensure holistic sports development across the country.
This marks the beginning of what many hope will be a new era for Ghanaian sports under the new government.

Kelvin Ofori Inspires Spartak Trnava to Commanding Win
Kelvin Ofori was the star of the show as Spartak Trnava dismantled Dukla Banska Bystrica 4-1 in the Slovakian Super Liga on Saturday. The Ghanaian winger delivered a goal and an assist in a first-half masterclass that left the visitors struggling to keep up at the Narodny Atleticky Stadion.
Right from the start, Trnava imposed themselves on the game. In the 9th minute, Ofori showcased his vision with a perfectly weighted pass to Michal Duris, who made no mistake in putting the home side ahead. Just nine minutes later, Ofori doubled the lead, finishing off a lightning-fast counterattack initiated by Philip Azango.
Duris was at it again in the 37th minute, securing his brace to give Trnava a commanding 3-0 advantage before halftime. The onslaught continued after the break when an unfortunate own goal from Boris Godál in the 53rd minute made it 4-0. Though Dukla Banska Bystrica found a consolation through Martin Rymarenko in the 65th minute, the outcome was never in doubt.
