Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong, has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that GFA President Kurt Okraku is considering a bid for a third term in office.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Acheampong clarified that the issue of a third term has never been tabled for discussion at the council level.
“It never came up for discussion; we [Exco] never discussed going for a third term or any extended period,” Acheampong stated.
The former Ashanti Gold CEO stressed the importance of focusing on fulfilling current mandates rather than contemplating future ambitions.
“When elected to office, the focus should be on improving the mandate you were chosen to fulfil, not contemplating future terms,” he noted.
Acheampong also emphasized that leadership success, rather than long-term ambitions, should determine re-election prospects.
“Your performance will decide whether or not you are eligible for a second term. Thinking about a third term prematurely would be inappropriate.”
Kurt Okraku, who assumed office in 2019 after the tenure of the Normalization Committee following Kwesi Nyantakyi’s exit, has had mixed reviews regarding his leadership.
The speculation has sparked debates within Ghanaian football circles, with prominent figures such as Kudjoe Fianoo, George Afriyie, and Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer publicly opposing the idea of extending Okraku’s presidency to a third term.

Veteran Nigerian goalkeeper, John Noble, has expressed unwavering optimism about the Super Eagles’ chances of making history by winning the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for the first time. Noble, a former Enyimba captain, is confident that the team has what it takes to overcome the challenges in their tough group and lift the trophy.
