FIFA Unveils ‘Canada Celebrates’ Nationwide Fan Programme Ahead of World Cup 2026

FIFA has launched “Canada Celebrates,” a nationwide fan engagement initiative aimed at bringing the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to communities across Canada ahead of the tournament scheduled for June and July 2026.

The programme will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, featuring free, one-day celebration events in up to 40 locations nationwide. The initiative is expected to allow more than 75% of Canadians to access a World Cup celebration site within a two-hour drive.

According to FIFA, the programme will convert public spaces into fan zones, offering live match screenings, football activities, cultural exhibitions, music, food, and community events. The initiative is designed to extend the World Cup atmosphere beyond official host cities such as Toronto and Vancouver.

FIFA Vice-President and CONCACAF President Vittorio Montagliani described the project as a way to unite communities while showcasing Canada’s growing football culture. He noted that hosting the World Cup is a historic opportunity to strengthen grassroots football development and promote national unity through sport.

The Canada Celebrates tour will officially launch simultaneously in British Columbia and Halifax, Nova Scotia, representing Canada’s western and eastern coasts. Each stop will highlight local culture while creating shared spaces for fans to celebrate the tournament.

In partnership with Coca-Cola, the programme will also support the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, which will take the original trophy to seven Canadian cities — Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa, and Toronto — giving fans a rare chance to see the iconic trophy before the tournament begins.

FIFA added that professional leagues, grassroots clubs, and national football bodies will be involved in the celebrations to encourage youth participation and inspire the next generation of players.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, will be the largest edition in tournament history, featuring 48 teams, 16 host cities, and 104 matches across North America.

CAF Dismisses Morocco Appeal, Confirms Senegal As AFCON 2025 Champions

CAF Dismisses Morocco Appeal, Confirms Senegal As AFCON 2025 Champions

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected an appeal from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) seeking to strip Senegal of the AFCON 2025 title.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, CAF confirmed that its Appeals Committee found no sufficient grounds to overturn the final result, officially reaffirming Senegal as champions of the tournament.

Morocco had submitted a formal protest following the controversial final played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on January 18, 2026. The appeal cited alleged refereeing errors linked to the moment Senegal players left the pitch for about 17 minutes during a disputed penalty review.

After examining match reports, video evidence, and submissions from all parties, CAF upheld the original outcome, maintaining Senegal’s status as AFCON 2025 winners.

CAF stated that the Disciplinary Board rejected Morocco’s protest, which alleged violations of Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON competition regulations by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).

With the ruling, the case is now considered closed. Senegal remain the official AFCON 2025 champions, while Morocco will shift focus to upcoming competitions as they continue their pursuit of another continental title, extending their long wait for AFCON success.

CAF Slaps Senegal FA With $615K Fine After AFCON 2025 Final Misconduct

CAF Slaps Senegal FA With $615K Fine After AFCON 2025 Final Misconduct

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Senegalese Football Federation a total of $615,000 following misconduct during the AFCON 2025 final against host nation Morocco.

The sanctions stem from incidents at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Senegal players walked off the pitch for about 17 minutes in protest after a penalty was awarded to Morocco. Following intervention from captain Sadio Mané, the team returned to the field and eventually won the title after extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring the winning goal after Brahim Díaz missed the controversial penalty.

After reviewing match officials’ reports, CAF issued several fines. Senegal FA was fined $300,000 for improper conduct by supporters, another $300,000 for unsporting behaviour by players and technical staff, and $15,000 related to disciplinary issues after five Senegal players received yellow cards during the match.

CAF stated that the incidents brought the game into disrepute and breached principles of fair play, loyalty, and integrity under its Disciplinary Code. The Senegal FA is expected to review the decision and could lodge an appeal.
