Ghana winger Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer delivered an outstanding performance, scoring both goals in Hamburger SV’s 2-1 win over FC Köln in their German Bundesliga 2 match on Friday at the RheinEnergieSTADION.
Konigsdorffer played the full 90 minutes, opening the scoring in the 5th minute with a right-footed strike from close range that found the bottom right corner. He doubled the lead in the 35th minute with another neat finish from the right side of the six-yard box.
Despite FC Köln’s dominance in possession and several chances created, Hamburger SV managed to preserve their lead. FC Köln pulled one back in the 78th minute with a header from Linton Maina, who converted a cross from Dejan Ljubicic, but it wasn’t enough to alter the outcome.
The victory boosts Hamburger SV’s head-to-head record against FC Köln to 9 wins, 7 losses, and 4 draws. Hamburger SV will next face Hertha BSC in their upcoming league fixture on August 10th.

Amid the ongoing debate over boxer Imane Khelif’s gender, Algerians have circulated childhood photos on social media to confirm that she is indeed female.
Despite being cleared by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Khelif’s gender has been a point of contention. The 25-year-old boxer, who had previously failed a gender eligibility test, defeated Angela Carini in just 46 seconds on Thursday.
Carini, who took several heavy punches early in the first round, succumbed to the fight and kneeled in tears. Frustrated, she threw her helmet to the ground, refused to shake Khelif’s hand, and expressed her discontent by yelling, “This is unjust.”
Khelif had faced disqualification from the World Championships due to failed gender eligibility tests and subsequent DNA analysis. However, with the International Boxing Association’s disqualification no longer recognized by the IOC, Khelif was allowed to compete in this year’s Olympics.
Having also faced disqualification in the past for elevated testosterone levels, Khelif secured her place in the quarter-finals of the women’s 66kg category after Carini’s withdrawal.
In response to ongoing skepticism, including claims that Khelif is “transgender” or “genetically male,” many Algerians have taken to social media to share her childhood photos in an effort to affirm her gender. The IOC has maintained its decision to allow Khelif to compete.

FIFA Licensed Agent and longtime scout Pamela Ansah-Asamoah has identified inadequate scouting as a significant problem for Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.
In an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports, Ansah-Asamoah discussed the challenges facing the two giants as they prepare for the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season. Reflecting on her experience with Liberty Professionals and legendary football administrator Sly Tetteh, she noted that both clubs are under pressure to improve their performances after disappointing seasons.
Kotoko finished sixth last season but faced setbacks, including losses to Nations FC and Accra Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium. Hearts finished 14th in the 2023-2024 season, marking a significant dip after winning the Ghana Premier League title in the 2020-2021 season.
Ansah-Asamoah, granddaughter of Ghana sports legend Nii Adjin-Tettey and a seasoned scout, pointed to the lack of effective scouting as a key reason behind the poor results of these major clubs.
“The problem with Hearts and Kotoko is about getting good scouts for the team. If Hearts offloaded 20 players at the end of July and registration ends at the end of August, how long can they scout for players? The players need time to go through trials, adapt to the team’s system of play before the league starts.”
She emphasized that the primary issue for Hearts and Kotoko is scouting, asserting that they need the right people to identify suitable players.
Since the start of the offseason, both Hearts and Kotoko have signed several new players in preparation for the upcoming season.

Coventry City Football Club manager Mark Robins has praised Ghana Black Stars striker Brandon Solomon Thomas-Asante for his standout traits that he believes will enhance the team.
Robins described the 25-year-old as a powerful, pacy player with goal-scoring pedigree in an interview with Coventry City media. The club signed the former West Bromwich Albion player to a four-year deal for an undisclosed amount.
Thomas-Asante was initially set to join fellow EFL Championship side Hull City and was even spotted at Hull City’s home ground a few days before a last-minute switch led him to Coventry instead.
Coventry City assistant manager George Boateng reportedly played a key role in Thomas-Asante’s decision to choose Coventry over Hull City. Boateng, a former Black Stars assistant coach, joined Coventry earlier this offseason and received high praise from Robins for influencing the English-born Ghanaian player.
“We’re excited to welcome Brandon to Coventry City. He is a powerful and pacy striker who has goal-scoring pedigree at this level plus a great attitude and work rate. Brandon can play across the frontline and will further strengthen our attacking options. We look forward to working with him at Coventry City.”
Thomas-Asante made his Black Stars debut in Ghana’s 4-3 win over Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has renewed its contract with kit sponsor The Hope Brand and released their kit for the upcoming season.
The club announced a two-year extension with the German-based kit company, which has Ghanaian connections and serves “as a trailblazing force in the Ghanaian and global fashion landscape.”
The Porcupine Warriors also revealed their new home jersey for the 2024-2025 season. The new strip is an all-red kit with black, white, and red colors marking the sleeves; the red color rests on a white background bracketed by two strips of black, with the same design used at the neck area.
Kotoko will compete in the upcoming Ghana Premier League in its second season under coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, who is heading into his second stint as the club’s lead technical man. Kotoko finished sixth in the 2023-2024 season.
