The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is launching a bidding process for television broadcast rights following the conclusion of its contract with StarTimes.
This marks a significant shift after StarTimes held exclusive rights for four years under a $5.25 million agreement signed in 2020. While the details surrounding the contract termination remain undisclosed, both parties have amicably agreed to part ways.
StarTimes’ coverage included key Ghanaian football events, such as the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup. They also produced match highlights for the Division One League, Women’s Premier League, and Women’s FA Cup.
With the contract now concluded, the GFA is inviting proposals from StarTimes and other interested broadcasters, including DSTV and GTV. This move presents a fresh opportunity for a new media partner to showcase Ghana’s premier domestic football competitions to a broader audience.
The bidding process underscores the GFA’s intent to explore innovative broadcasting arrangements that can enhance the visibility and accessibility of Ghanaian football both locally and internationally.

Tom Vernon, the founder of the Right to Dream Academy, has revealed that the best player he ever witnessed at the Akosombo-based academy was Kelvin Ofori.
The talented winger transitioned from the Academy to Germany, where he signed with Fortuna DĂĽsseldorf. He later played for Paderborn and is currently with Spartak Trnava in Slovakia.
According to Vernon, the 22-year-old had the potential to reach the level of Lionel Messi due to his exceptional talent.
“The best player I ever saw here was Kelvin Ofori. He signed in Germany, and now he’s playing in Slovakia. He was skillful,” Vernon told Joy Sports.
“I don’t like it when people tell me they have a Messi-type player just because he’s left-footed and plays in a similar style. But it changes; at different stages, different players develop, and what matters is how they perform when fully grown. But if you talk about academy football, he was the best player. Even at Manchester United, I never saw a player as good as Kelvin Ofori.”
