Dubbed the Cape Coast Showdown, the 2024 edition of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human (GFH) Competition is set to be one of the biggest athletics events, igniting excitement among students and the local community.
This highly anticipated event, scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, will feature sprinters from the Central and Western Regions of Ghana, and is expected to draw participants from other regions as well.
Athletics enthusiasts are in for an electrifying display of speed and skill as some of Ghana’s finest athletes compete for glory and a spot in the GFH finale in Accra. Notable schools such as St. Augustine’s College, Adisadel College, Aggrey Memorial, Ghana National College, and Mfantsipim will showcase their sprinters, promising an exciting atmosphere for their supporters.
Previously, Edwin Gadayi and Janet Mensah claimed victory in the senior races at the northern region edition held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
GNPC and other sponsors have lined up attractive prizes for winners in all age categories, ensuring a fiercely competitive event. This weekend, all roads lead to the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for a thrilling showdown.

Malaysia-based top Ghanaian combat fighter, Gerald Dah, is set to return to the ring on June 1, 2024, to face Nawid Bakhshi of Afghanistan in the 70 kg division of the 2024 Malaysia International Muay Thai Championship at Dataran Warisan Taiping in Perak.
In an interview from his base, Dah urged Ghanaians to pray for his success. As one of the most prominent Ghanaian figures in the sport, he hopes that the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will recognize his achievements and honor him accordingly.
Last year, Dah narrowly missed out on a crucial bout and subsequently the SWAG Award. Despite this setback, the dedicated fighter remains determined to keep winning and make his family and nation proud.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) concluded a three-day regional club licensing workshop in Accra on Wednesday, May 22. The workshop aimed to provide updates on the Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP) and review the implementation status of the Club Licensing system in national competitions across Member Associations.
During his closing remarks, Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, encouraged participants to utilize the insights and experiences of Club Licensing Managers from across the continent to enhance their efforts.
“Club Licensing is the single most important tool that can change the game. Here in Ghana, we’ve been on a journey and I’m glad that we’re now at the stage where we can do this online. It’s tedious work, but when you go through it successfully, you will appreciate that it can and will change the game,” Addo stated. He emphasized that club licensing is an ongoing process that requires continuous improvement to build a professional game in Africa.
The workshop, which had previously been held in Mauritania, Algeria, and Ethiopia, concluded its series in Ghana. Addo expressed gratitude to CAF for hosting the final session in Ghana and thanked participants, organizers, and instructors for their enthusiasm and efforts.
The Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP) is set to become operational in the 2024/2025 season.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club striker, Steven Mukwala, has expressed his team’s determination to give their all in their upcoming match against Accra Hearts of Oak.
In an interview with Kotoko media, Mukwala emphasized the team’s commitment to securing a victory in the highly anticipated clash set for Sunday, May 26, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Reflecting on goalkeeper Frederick Asare’s remarks about wanting to please the Kotoko fans after a challenging season, the Ugandan forward made it clear that the team is focused and resolute in their approach.
“We are much more determined as a team, and as individuals, we are also determined. We are ready to give our all. We know we are not in a good position, but we shall fight hard to make sure that at least on Sunday we can pick the maximum points,” Mukwala stated.
Mukwala recently scored in Kotoko’s 2-1 loss to Berekum Chelsea, bringing his tally to 12 goals in the 2023-2024 season. The Porcupine Warriors aim to turn their fortunes around with a decisive win against their rivals, Hearts of Oak.

Head coach of the Black Starlets, Laryea Kingston, has pointed out that the condition of the University of Ghana Stadium pitch hindered his team’s performance against Benin.
Ghana secured a victory in their second match, topping Group A and advancing to the semifinals of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. However, unlike their previous match against Cote d’Ivoire where they netted five goals, Kingston’s team managed only two goals on Wednesday afternoon.
Despite being pleased with his team’s overall performance, Kingston noted that the pitch’s state made it challenging for the Starlets to execute their desired style of play.
“I want us to be calm enough. The way we want to play, we want to be calm enough. Sometimes, it’s very difficult to play,” Kingston said post-match. “We have one or two challenges with the way the ball moves on the pitch; it’s a bit slow. So it slowed the way we wanted to play. For me, I think we dominated play today unlike against Ivory Coast.”
The Black Starlets aim to maintain their unbeaten run in the competition as they prepare for their semifinal match.
