Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is set to attend the CAF Coaches Symposium in Abidjan, CĂ´te d’Ivoire, on September 12 and 13. The symposium will focus on key discussions about the 2023 AFCON, which was held earlier this year. Addo, who replaced Chris Hughton after Ghana’s group stage exit from the 2023 AFCON, faces mounting pressure following a poor start in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, where Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola and drew 1-1 with Niger. Ghana currently sits third in Group F with just one point, trailing Angola and Sudan. Top coaches such as Pedro Goncalves, Emerse FaĂ©, Collin Benjamin, and Avram Grant are also expected to attend.

Angola’s head coach, Pedro Goncalves, has urged for cautious optimism despite leading the Black Sable Antelopes to an impressive start in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Following Angola’s 1-0 victory against Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium and a 2-1 win over Sudan in Luanda, Goncalves emphasized that while the team is in a strong position to qualify for the tournament in Morocco, they are not yet at the pinnacle of African football.
In an interview with azscore, Goncalves expressed satisfaction with the victories but cautioned against unrealistic expectations, stating, “We have much to develop, and we are not yet at the pinnacle of African football…not in terms of sporting prowess, logistics, or operations.”
Angola, currently well-positioned in the qualifiers, will face Niger on October 7, with a win likely securing their place at the 2025 AFCON.

Wisdom Kobena Woyome, Chairman of Ghana’s Parliament Select Committee for Youth, Sports, and Tourism, expressed his desire for stronger performances from the Black Stars in their 2025 AFCON qualifiers. In an interview with ChannelOne Sports, following Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Angola and 1-1 draw with Niger, Woyome highlighted the need for greater commitment from the players. He noted that despite playing on the same conditions as their opponents, Ghana could have done more, especially when playing in front of their home crowd. Woyome also emphasized his disappointment with the result against Niger, which he had hoped would be a smooth victory to solidify Ghana’s position in Group F.

Wisdom Kobena Woyome, Chairman of Ghana’s Parliament Select Committee for Youth, Sports, and Tourism, has voiced his disappointment following CAF’s decision to deem the Baba Yara Stadium unfit to host international football matches. The ruling, issued on Wednesday, September 11, means Ghana’s upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifier games against Sudan, scheduled for October 11 and 15, will now be held outside the country.
With the Black Stars needing a win after recent poor performances, the ruling has sparked frustration. In an interview with ChannelOne Sports, Woyome criticized the handling of renovations at both the Baba Yara and Ohene Djan (Accra) Sports Stadiums, suggesting that funds allocated for the upgrades were misused. He called for a paradigm shift in addressing these issues to prevent such situations in the future.
