In Accra, a two-day training session for Ghanaian volunteers selected for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has concluded. The event, held at Alliance Française, aimed to equip the volunteers with essential knowledge to navigate Paris and handle potential cultural differences during the multi-sport event scheduled for July and August.
Ten volunteers, drawn from various sporting federations in Ghana, participated in the pre-departure training organized by the French Embassy in collaboration with France Volontaires. The training focused on preparing the volunteers for their roles and ensuring they are well-prepared for their mission in France.
Fofogan Doku, Volunteering Development Officer at France Volontaires, expressed confidence in the volunteers’ readiness to fulfill their mission in France after the comprehensive training.
The volunteers shared their experiences, expressing gratitude for the valuable information and insights gained during the training sessions. They affirmed their readiness to execute their duties effectively at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Sponsored by the French Embassy, the volunteers will spend between 8 and 12 months in France, working with French organizations related to sports and youth.

The Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale is all set to welcome athletes from the Northern regions of Ghana for the inaugural event of the 2024 GNPC Ghana Fastest Human Competition.
Reks Brobby, the project founder and CEO, a former athlete and Olympian, affirmed that preparations are complete for Saturday’s event, emphasizing the significance of this regional meet as the first of the yearly series.
“We are fully prepared, and the athletes are equally ready. This marks the beginning of our annual regional competitions, and we have spared no effort to ensure its success. We extend our gratitude to our title sponsor GNPC, Adidas, and others for their support,” stated Brobby in an interview.
Athletes across various age categories, including U-15, U-18, seniors, and those over 18, will vie for top honors in the competition.
This concept, dedicated to revitalizing short-distance racing in schools and communities, has thrived for over a decade, nurturing exceptional talents such as Emmanuel Dasor, Ben Azamati, Joe Paul Amoah, Sarfo Ansah, Emmanuel Oduro Mensah, Shadrach Mensah, Desmond Aryee, Emmanuel Yeboah, and Barnabas Aggerh among men, and Beatrice Gyaman, Latifa Ali, Kate Agyeman, Grace Obuor, Hor Halute, and Janet Mensah among women.
Following the Tamale event, the competition will head to Cape Coast Stadium on May 25, Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium on June 15, and culminate at the newly constructed tracks of the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra on June 29.
