The Black Princesses of Ghana are currently engaged in a 7-day training program in France, courtesy of the French Embassy in Accra and with technical support from the France Football Federation (FFF). Here are the key details about the initiative:
A. Purpose of the French Football Federation/Ghana Football Association Women’s Initiative Project: Led by the French Embassy in Ghana under the name “Ghana Olympique – GO!”, the project aims to collaborate with the Ghana Football Association in the professionalization of women’s soccer. Specifically, it targets over 20 Ghanaian players, coaches, and referees in partnership with the French Football Federation. The initiative spans activities in both France and Ghana, aligning with Component 3 of the FSPI GO! Initiative, which emphasizes fostering female sports practices, including football.
B. Project Objective: The primary goal is to professionalize women’s football for more than 20 Ghanaian participants, including players, coaches, and referees, in collaboration with the French Football Federation. The program unfolds in both France and Ghana.
C. Project Timeline: The project involves reciprocal exchanges, with the FFF technical team visiting Ghana and Ghanaian players attending a training course at Clairefontaine, France (10th – 17th February 2024). Additionally, a second training session in Ghana is planned for Q2 or Q3 of 2024. This project exclusively focuses on women, with priority given to them for travel and other benefits.
D. Completed Project Activities: i. In 2023, the FFF team, led by its International Technical Director, visited the GFA in Accra to understand the needs and environment of female footballers, trainers, and referees in Ghana. This knowledge informed the adaptation of training content to meet the players’ level and needs. ii. During the visit, the FFF team witnessed a football match between two women’s football clubs at the McDan AstroTurf Park, aiming to identify needs, challenges, and understand the dynamics of female football in Ghana. iii. A field meeting and visit to Prampram were conducted to assess the venue for Phase 2 of the project.
E. Training Participants: The Ghanaian U-20 Women’s team, the Black Princesses, and their Technical Team actively participate in this initiative.

The KGL Millennium Marathon’s tenth edition was officially launched on February 15 at the KGL Group Ghana office in Accra. Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Opoku, graced the event as the Guest of Honour, joined by representatives of the marathon’s sponsors. As the University of Ghana prepares to host the Games Village for the upcoming 13th African Games, significant renovations are underway to enhance the stadium’s facilities. Notable improvements include upgraded tracks for athletics and the construction of a new rugby field.
The University has invested in state-of-the-art facilities to cater to the needs of over 5,000 athletes and officials participating in the Games. Modern accommodations and dining options have been set up to ensure a comfortable experience for all participants.
Madam Joyce Datsa, a member of the Local Organizing Committee overseeing Accommodations, expressed confidence in the smooth progress of preparations, emphasizing Ghana’s commitment to delivering one of the best Games.
Legon will not only provide a top-notch residential experience but also serve as a central transportation hub connecting the Games Village to various event venues. Mr. Samson Deen assured that comprehensive coordination with security and traffic officers has been arranged to guarantee seamless and safe movement during the Sports Festival.
The Borteyman Sports site, a key venue for the African Games, boasts modern sports infrastructure, including a sports hall for indoor games, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. This reflects Ghana’s dedication to hosting a world-class sporting event.
Mr. Ernest Danso, the Chef du Mission, revealed that Ghana is gearing up to present a substantial contingent of over 500 athletes and officials competing across 25 events.
The 13th edition of the African Games promises fifteen days of thrilling competitions, featuring elite athletes and coaches from fifty-five African countries participating in twenty-nine sports. With over 3,000 technical officers, journalists, and global celebrities, the event is expected to reach a TV and online audience of over 5.5 billion. Importantly, the African Games will serve as an official qualifier for some disciplines for the XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024.
