Eager to etch their names in history, the boxing team, having trained diligently at their respective clubs before assembling for a training camp in Cape Coast, is determined to leave a lasting legacy at the ‘Accra 2023’ Games.
Noteworthy professionals like Henry Malm, Mohammad Aryeetey, and Olympic Bronze medalist Samuel Takyi have chosen to contribute to Ghana’s boxing success at the games. The boxers now look to the government and people of Ghana for robust support and encouragement.
Under the guidance of the esteemed Dr. Coach Ofori Asare, Head Trainer of the National Team, the training drills aim to prepare the team to compete at the highest level. Dr. Asare expresses optimism, aspiring for Ghana to sweep all the boxing medals at the 13th African Games. Assisting him are Vincent Akai Nettey, Head coach of Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym, Daniel Larteykwei Lartey, Head trainer of Fit Square Gym, along with Frank Addo and Elvis Robertson from the Wisdom and Akotoku Academy Boxing gyms.
Reports from the training camp reveal a positive atmosphere, with the boxers in high spirits and eager to showcase their best performances, aiming to elevate Ghana on the global sporting stage when the 13th African Games kick off on March 8th.

National weightlifting star Winifred Ntumi, a key contender for gold, has shifted her training base to the University of Ghana Campus, Games Village, in preparation for the upcoming 2023 African Games in Accra. Having previously secured Team Ghana’s first three medals in the 2019 African Games in the 45kg category, Ntumi is now set to compete in the 49kg category with determination to clinch victory once again.
Despite the category change, Winifred Ntumi is unwavering in her commitment to bringing home gold. As she trains rigorously in Accra, she expresses a strong sense of pride and responsibility, considering Accra her home. She is determined not to let any other nationals claim the coveted gold medals.
“Am seriously training very hard to win Gold for Ghana. This is our chance to prove ourselves on the international stage, and it’s an opportunity for our countrymen, family, friends, and fans to witness our performance. We just need motivation and encouragement to showcase our best,” she affirmed.

The University of Education at Winneba is set to host the exciting maiden edition of the Ghana International Footvolley Cup 2024, kicking off with a special training camp from February 17th to 21st, 2024. The Footvolley Training Camp, scheduled from 8:00 am to 10:30 am and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the University of Education, Winneba North campus, will pave the way for the tournament.
The first-ever Ghana International Footvolley Cup is scheduled for February 22nd and 23rd, 2024, taking place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the University of Education, Winneba North campus.
Hon. Mustapha Mohammed, the President of Ghana Footvolley, revealed that participating countries include Austria, Finland, Benin, alongside local teams from Ghana.
The newly elected young Assembly member in Kasoa encouraged Ghanaians to embrace sports and explore diverse disciplines like Footvolley, emphasizing its excitement and potential for fostering a love for sports among the community.

Ghana is on track to host the 13th African Games, with key venues nearing completion and set to undergo a test run as the nation gears up to welcome over 3,500 elite athletes from across the continent. New images from the Borteyman Complex, University of Ghana Stadium, Achimota Cricket Oval, and Accra Sports Stadium pitch showcase the extensive preparations for the sporting extravaganza scheduled from March 8 to March 23.
On February 13, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is poised to launch the 25-day countdown to the event, with the ceremony serving as a trial run for the hosting facilities. The University of Ghana Stadium and the newly-built Borteyman Sports Complex will host various events, including swimming, basketball, badminton, and weightlifting. Football matches will take place at the Cape Coast Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium.
With 49 African Union member states confirming participation, five countries—Cape Verde, Senegal, Sao Tome and Principe, Sudan, and South Sudan—are yet to confirm. Notable participants include Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, and several others.
Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, the Executive Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), emphasized close collaboration with Ghanaian sports federations to ensure facilities are in top condition. Of the 23 competitive events, eight will serve as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, including athletics, badminton, cycling, wrestling, swimming, tennis, table tennis, and triathlon.
Despite concerns, Dr. Ofosu-Asare is confident that the 25-day countdown event will showcase Ghana’s readiness to the entire African continent. Team Ghana is intensifying its training with a residential camp at Cape Coast Stadium, focusing on rigorous preparations since January 9, with plans to continue training in Accra and participate in facility testing.
