Ghanaian football giants, Hearts of Oak, have announced the immediate appointment of Ivorian tactician Aboubakar Ouattara as their new head coach. The capital-based club revealed the decision on Friday, February 9, with Coach Ouattara set to commence training with the players next week.
According to the club’s statement, Coach Aboubakar Ouattara has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Hearts of Oak, solidifying his role as the substantive head coach. The statement also mentioned that the coach will start training with the team after their friendly game against Techiman Eleven Wonders over the weekend.
Possessing a CAF License ‘A’ coaching certificate, Coach Aboubakar Ouattara brings a wealth of experience to the position, having achieved success in various African countries as both a coach and Technical Director.

Accra Great Olympics, a Ghana Premier League team, has officially announced the re-signing of midfielder Gladson Awako, who recently ended his spell with rival club Accra Hearts of Oak SC.
The 33-year-old midfielder, renowned for his standout performances with TP Mazembe, initially joined Hearts of Oak SC in 2023. However, Awako has made the decision to return to his former club, Accra Great Olympics, a move that has captured significant attention within the league.
Recognized for his on-field skills, Awako’s return is anticipated to bring experience and leadership to Accra Great Olympics. As a former captain of the Black Satellites and a player with international experience representing Ghana, Awako adds a valuable mix of local and global expertise to his rekindled association with the club.
Throughout his extensive career, Awako has demonstrated his talents not just in Ghana but also abroad, playing for clubs such as Hearts of Lions, Wa All Stars, Brekum Chelsea, Don Bosco, Phoenix Rising in the USA, and Recreativo Huelva in Spain.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Ghanaian Futsal national team secured a spot in the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Cote d’Ivoire with an impressive 6-2 win on Friday.
Facing the challenge of overturning a 4-0 deficit from the first leg in Cape Coast, Coach Philip Boakye implemented a tactical variation in the second leg, yielding rewarding results for the Ghanaian team. The decisive victory in Abidjan allowed Ghana to qualify for the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations through the away goal rule, overcoming the 4-0 loss at the University of Cape Coast Hall in the previous week.
Ghana’s qualification ensures their participation in the upcoming edition of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, Morocco. This marks the Futsal team’s return to the competition since 1996 when they reached the final but lost to Egypt.
The 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Rabat from April 8 to 17, 2024. The top three teams in the tournament will earn qualification for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan as representatives of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Dr. Christiana Mensah and Dr. Kofi Ablor, two distinguished Ghanaian medical practitioners, attended the FIFA Medical Conference 2024 held in Boston on the 6th and 7th of February 2024. The conference, hosted in a state aspiring to host the World Cup in 2026, brought together medical professionals from around the world for a significant gathering aimed at sharing knowledge and exchanging ideas.
The two-day conference focused on the latest scientific research and medical advancements in methodologies, techniques, and procedures applied in football. It aligned with FIFA’s commitment to making football medicine accessible to all Member Associations and fostering collaboration among them.
The conference introduced a new paradigm shift, emphasizing the creation of a platform for increased collaboration between Member Associations to bridge knowledge gaps. Various topics were discussed during the conference, ranging from spotting head injuries, the FIFA Medical Concussion Protocol, on-pitch head injury assessment, implementing surveillance in a national team, and football language, to infectious diseases, cardiac screening in youth football, estimating return to play, postpartum return to play, menstrual health awareness in low-resource settings, menstrual cycle myths, ACL epidemic, hamstring injuries, and mental health.
Dr. Christiana Baah and Dr. Kofi Ablorh, the Ghanaian delegates, expressed their gratitude to the FIFA Medical team and the Ghana Football Association for providing them with the platform to interact and learn new ways of achieving excellence in football medicine. They emphasized their readiness to both teach and apply the knowledge gained to positively impact the game of football.
