The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Committee has appointed a five-member committee, led by GFA Vice President Mark Addo, to spearhead the search for a new head coach for the Senior Men’s National Team, the Black Stars. The committee has set a final deadline of Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:59 pm for the submission of applications for the coveted coaching position.
Even beyond applications, the committee has been charged with identifying suitable and competent coaches for consideration, whether or not they formally apply for the post.
Coaches interested in taking charge of the Black Stars are urged to submit their applications, along with their curriculum vitae or resume and a mission statement, to the Search Committee via email at [email protected] before the specified deadline.
The job description for the Head Coach includes overseeing the overall management of the Senior Men’s National Team, encompassing player selection, tactical planning for training and matches, and ensuring the team’s performance. Additionally, the Head Coach is expected to contribute to the general technical direction and supervision of the Black Stars, build the capacity of the technical team, and stay abreast of the latest trends and innovations in football tactics and development.
Qualifications for the role require the Head Coach to be a proven winner with experience coaching top Men’s National Teams or Club Football. The candidate should hold the highest football license globally and have at least 15 years of football experience. A proven track record in team reconstruction, organization, and the development of young talent is essential. The ideal candidate should also be a disciplinarian, tactician, and possess strong leadership skills.

Naa Ashorkor, a prominent media personality and co-host of TV3’s New Day, has urged Ghanaians and stakeholders in Ghanaian football to redirect their focus and support towards the female national teams. Expressing her disappointment on Twitter, Naa Ashorkor emphasized the need for funding and backing for the Black Princesses and Black Queens, who, in her view, have shown outstanding performances in various tournaments but lack the necessary support.
In her tweet, she stated, “It’s time to focus on the female teams. The Black Princesses have qualified for the U20 women’s World Cup. Last year the Black Queens won all their games except one. Give them the funding they need, give them the support.”

Ghanaian Tennis Sensation Johnson Acquah Triumphs at InterRecruit West Africa Championship
In a thrilling finale at the National Tennis Center in Accra, Johnson Acquah, the Ghanaian tennis star, emerged victorious at the InterRecruit West Africa Tennis Championship. The week-long tournament brought together players from Togo, Benin, and Ghana, with Acquah showcasing exceptional form and determination.
Facing off against compatriot Lemack Bagerbaseh in the final, Acquah secured a hard-fought victory in straight sets (7-6(5), 7-6(3)), after an intense battle lasting 2 hours and 15 minutes. Remarkably, Acquah did not drop a single point throughout the tournament, demonstrating his dominance on the court.
An elated Acquah shared, “It’s been a long journey, but a very special one. I played some of my best tennis, honestly.” He expressed comfort and confidence during the earlier rounds, emphasizing his exceptional performance in the quarter-final and semi-final matches.
Acquah’s triumph earned him a well-deserved $300 prize, while Bagerbaseh received $200 for his runner-up position. In the women’s category, Noudogbessi Rodia from Benin clinched the title in a round-robin format, with Ghana’s Tracy Ampah securing an impressive second place.
