The Ghana Football Association is pleased to inform all teams participating in the Ghana Premier League and Access Bank Division One League that their footballs for the upcoming second round of the season are now available for collection.
The Ghana Premier League and Access Bank Division One League are scheduled to resume on February 23, 2024.
Representatives from the respective clubs are requested to pick up their allocated footballs at the head office of the Ghana Football Association starting Monday, January 29, 2024.
The first round of the Ghana Premier League concluded before the recent break, while the Access Bank Division One League had progressed to Matchweek 13. Both Premier League and Division One League clubs will be utilizing Tempo footballs for the upcoming matches.

Al-Nasr SC, a prominent club in the Libya Premier League, has officially confirmed the acquisition of Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah from Medeama Sporting Club. The 25-year-old, who recently represented the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, joins the Libyan club following his stint with the national team, which unfortunately saw them exit in the tournament’s first round without a victory.
While the social media announcement by Al-Nasr SC did not disclose the duration of Sowah’s contract, the club expressed excitement about the new addition, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a focused mindset in the game.

In a significant boost to the development of Colts Football in Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has successfully obtained $100,000 worth of footballs through the FIFA Forward programme. These footballs, aimed at enhancing Colts Leagues and clubs across the nation, have now arrived in the country.
The GFA is set to clear the footballs from the port and subsequently distribute them to the Regional Football Associations (RFAs). Representatives from the RFAs will be invited to the GFA Secretariat to collect their share, which will then be distributed to Colts Clubs in various regions.
The initiative, announced during the 29th Session of the GFA Congress by President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, is part of the Association’s broader plans to strengthen Colts Leagues and support Colts Clubs in Football Districts nationwide. The GFA Executive Council has approved this policy, emphasizing its commitment to grassroots football development.
The footballs acquired include Size 4 for use by U13 and U15 Colts clubs, while Size 5 will be allocated for U17 Colts clubs. Additionally, President Simeon-Okraku introduced the National Juvenile Awards during the Ordinary Congress in July 2023 to recognize and honor outstanding young talents in the field.

Following the termination of Chris Hughton as the Black Stars coach on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the Ghana Football Association has outlined its plan to appoint a successor. A five-member search committee has been established to assess and recommend a candidate to the Executive Council for approval.
Chaired by Mark Addo, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, the search committee includes legal practitioner and law lecturer Ace Ankomah (Esq.) as Vice Chairman, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Director of Coaching Education of the GFA, Ghana football legend Opoku Nti, and William Caesar Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The committee is tasked with presenting their recommendation for the next Black Stars coach to the Executive Council within three weeks.
Criteria for Selecting the New Black Stars Head Coach Revealed
As the Ghana Football Association prepares to publish a comprehensive job description for the Black Stars head coach position, an abbreviated version of the selection criteria has been disclosed. The key qualifications include:
- A demonstrated history of success in coaching Top Men’s National Teams or Club Football.
- Alignment or compatibility with the football philosophy ingrained in Ghana’s DNA.
- Possession of the highest football license globally, coupled with over 15 years of coaching experience.
- Proven expertise in team reconstruction, organization, and the nurturing of young talent.
- Demonstrated skills as a disciplinarian, tactician, and leader.
