Raheem “Baddo” Animashaun, at just 16 years old, has made history as the youngest boxing champion in West Africa, clinching the West African Boxing Union light-welterweight title. He achieved this milestone with a 7th-round TKO victory over Ghana’s Richman Ashelley during De-Lad’s Boxing Promotions event at the NIS, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
In only his second professional fight under De-Lad’s Boxing Promotions, Baddo now boasts a record of ten wins. The young champion expressed his ambition, stating, “This title is just a stepping stone to winning more titles in the future. I believe I have the qualities of legends like Rocky Marciano, Azumah Nelson, Manny Pacquiao, Sugar Ray Leonard, Iron Mike Tyson, and Anthony Joshua to become the undisputed champion of the world.”

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had expressed interest in having Ghana host this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League. During a session with Parliament’s Sports Select Committee, Ussif mentioned that CAF reached out regarding the possibility of bringing the club competition to Ghana, citing the country’s adequate facilities developed during the African Games.
While the tournament is set to take place in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, on October 10, 2024, Ussif emphasized Ghana’s capability as a potential host. He also announced that Ghana will host the next African Athletics Championships next year, highlighting the nation’s growing reputation in hosting significant sporting events.

Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil has called LA Galaxy’s record-breaking accomplishment in Major League Soccer (MLS) “amazing.” The Galaxy became the first team in league history to have four players each score at least 10 goals in a season, following their 4-2 win over Vancouver Whitecaps, where Paintsil netted his 10th goal of the campaign.
Paintsil, alongside teammates Gabriel Pec, Riqui Puig, and Dejan Joveljic (who leads with 14 goals), celebrated the milestone, with the Ghanaian winger praising the collective effort. “Kudos to the technical team, kudos to everyone involved… it’s really a plus for us, and it will give us the confidence to achieve even more,” Paintsil said, reflecting on the historic achievement.

Ghanaian basketball center Amida Brimah has signed a two-month contract with Spanish Basketball League team BAXI Manresa for the 2024-2025 season. The 30-year-old joins the top-flight Spanish side as a temporary replacement for the injured Bodian Massa. Brimah, who played for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G-League and Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico last season, returns to Europe with this move.
The 6’10” center has previously won the Belgian league with Oostende and played in the EuroCup with Bourg-En-Bresse. Manresa, which finished eighth in the 2023-2024 Endesa Regular Season, will benefit from Brimah’s defensive skills, as he holds the NBA G-League record for most blocks and briefly played for the Indiana Pacers.
