Kwesi Appiah: A Decade of Excellence According to Ignatius Osei Fosu
In a recent interview on MAX TV, Ignatius Osei Fosu, assistant coach of the Sudanese national team, heaped praises on Kwesi Appiah, calling him the best coach to have managed the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, in the last decade.
Appiah, who last led the Black Stars in 2019, guided them to the Round of 16 in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt before his tenure ended under the Kurt Okraku-led administration. He was succeeded by Charles Akonnor. Despite his exit, Appiah’s impact remains a subject of admiration, not just in Ghana but beyond its borders.
Osei Fosu emphasized Appiah’s remarkable coaching abilities, highlighting his recent achievements with Sudan. Under Appiah’s leadership, the Falcons of Jediane qualified for the 2025 AFCON—a feat last accomplished in 2012. Furthermore, Sudan currently tops Group B in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, securing 10 points in four matches and setting the stage for a promising campaign against Senegal and South Sudan in March 2025.
“Kwesi Appiah is the best coach in the last 10 years to have handled the Black Stars,” Osei Fosu remarked, reflecting on his influence and achievements.
Appiah’s legacy with the Black Stars includes seven victories across 54 competitive matches—a record that continues to spark debates about his place in Ghanaian football history.
