AWCON 2025: Black Queens Seeded in Level 2 as Draw Looms
The anticipation for the 2025 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) is building, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) prepares to hold the official draw on Friday, November 22, at the prestigious Mohammed VI Complex in Morocco.
The tournament, scheduled to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, promises to be a spectacle of African women’s football, bringing together the continent’s finest teams for the 13th edition of this prestigious competition.
Team Draw Structure
Ahead of the draw, CAF classified the 12 participating teams into four levels based on the latest FIFA rankings:
Level 1: Morocco (hosts), Nigeria, and South Africa
Level 2: Zambia, Ghana, and Tunisia
Level 3: Mali, Senegal, and Algeria
Level 4: DR Congo, Tanzania, and Botswana
As the host nation, Morocco will automatically lead Group A. Reigning champions South Africa are set to head Group C, while record winners Nigeria will captain Group B. The remaining teams will be drawn into these groups to complete the lineup.
