Inaki Williams to Miss Ghana’s Final 2025 AFCON Qualifiers Due to Hamstring Injury
Ghana will be without star striker Inaki Williams for their crucial final round of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger, after the Athletic Bilbao forward was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Williams sustained the injury ahead of Bilbao’s La Liga match against Real Valladolid, and the club has confirmed he will be unavailable for selection.
In a statement, Athletic Bilbao announced, “The forward will be unavailable for Sunday’s La Liga clash with Real Valladolid after straining his left hamstring muscles.” The 30-year-old, who has scored five goals this season, was initially included in Ghana’s 25-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers but will now undergo further assessment to determine the severity of the injury.
The Black Stars are set to begin their training camp in Accra on Sunday, with sessions scheduled at the Accra Sports Stadium. Their first match will be against Angola’s Palancas Negras on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by their final group-stage match against Niger on home soil three days later.
Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F with just two points from four games, trailing both Angola and Sudan. Despite the setback, the Black Stars will be hoping to pull off a successful campaign to secure their spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.
