Stonebwoy Calls for Revival of Black Stars Through Local Talent Integration
Ghanaian dancehall sensation Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, has passionately advocated for the inclusion of Ghana Premier League players in the Black Stars as a cornerstone for reviving the national team’s fortunes.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Stonebwoy highlighted the importance of grassroots development and local player integration, particularly in the wake of Ghana’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F without a single win in six matches, while Angola and Sudan claimed the qualification spots.
Stonebwoy expressed concern about the disconnect between the domestic league and the national team. “If we cannot fish into the Black Stars from the Ghana Premier League, then what is the use of the Ghana Premier League? It’s very important to include players from Ghana,” he emphasized.
He further elaborated on the need for a robust system that nurtures local talent for national success. “These teams need to be built from the grassroots, and local inclusion is key. We cannot just rely on players called from outside,” Stonebwoy asserted.
There has been some progress recently, with five home-based players receiving call-ups during the AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger. However, Stonebwoy believes a more systematic approach to developing and integrating local talent will be crucial in rebuilding the Black Stars into a formidable force.
His call resonates with many fans and stakeholders who see the Ghana Premier League as a vital resource for the national team’s growth and future success.
