Zoomlion Ensures Cleanliness for Sporting Success at Accra’s Stadia during 13th African Games
Zoomlion Ghana Ltd., renowned for its expertise in waste management across Africa, is playing a pivotal role in maintaining pristine environments for the ongoing 13th African Games hosted in Accra, Ghana.
The company has mobilized approximately 15 brand new waste collection trucks to handle the solid waste generated at the four sporting venues.
Mr. Ernest Kusi, Director of Service Quality and Monitoring at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, highlighted the company’s responsibilities, which include scientific cleaning, environmental sanitation, solid and liquid waste management, fumigation, and medical waste management at venues such as the Borteyman Sports Complex, Achimota Oval, Accra Sports Stadium, and the Bukom Emporium.
He emphasized Zoomlion’s commitment to source separation by providing well-labeled bins for both plastic and general waste, with plastics earmarked for recycling to add value.
Mr. Kusi underscored Zoomlion’s extensive experience in providing sanitation services, referencing their contributions to major sports tournaments like CAN 2008 and CAN 2010 in Ghana and Angola, respectively.
Mr. Seth Appiah Ocran, a manager with Zoomlion’s Monitoring and Evaluation unit stationed at the Bukom Emporium,13 urged patrons to dispose of waste properly in designated bins, emphasizing the importance of sending a positive sanitation message from Ghana to the world.
In preparation for the Games, Zoomlion provided specialized training to its sanitation officers at the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) at Bundase Training Camp. The rigorous two-week training covered essential skills such as management, drill, cleaning techniques, self-discipline, physical fitness, time management, team work, crowd control, and scientific cleaning.
The 13th African Games, taking place in Ghana from March 8 to March 23, 2024, marks the second time in history that the games have been decentralized, with events hosted across three cities: Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.
