Olowookere’s Passion Fuels Flamingos Ahead of USA Quarterfinal Showdown
Bankole Olowookere, head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s team, is set to lead the Flamingos in a high-stakes quarterfinal match against the USA in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, according to Sportblog247.com. The two teams last met in the 2022 tournament in India, where Nigeria finished in third place.
Determined to surpass that milestone, Olowookere recently expressed his love for coaching on social media, sharing, “I don’t have time for hobbies. At the end of the day, I treat my job as a hobby. It’s something I love doing.”
Nigeria’s U-17 squad has been in excellent form, kicking off the tournament with a 4-1 victory over New Zealand. Shakirat Abidemi Moshood opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, thanks to a quick pass from Harmony Chidi. Khadijat Taiwo Adegoke added another goal in the 13th minute, assisted by Faridat Abdulwahab, who later extended the lead with a fine finish in the 28th minute. Taiwo Tewogbola Afolabi capped off the Flamingos’ scoring in the 55th minute before New Zealand managed a consolation goal in the 60th minute.
In their following match, Nigeria continued their strong performance, overpowering Ecuador with a 4-0 win. Moshood shined once more, converting a penalty in the 28th minute and proving to be a key player in Nigeria’s attack.
With Olowookere’s dedication and the Flamingos’ momentum, Nigeria is set for an intense quarterfinal rematch against the USA.
