Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker, has reportedly bid farewell to SSC Napoli fans following the club’s final Serie A game against U.S. Lecce, according to Sportblog247.com.
Osimhen, who joined Napoli from LOSC Lille in 2020, has made a significant impact, scoring 76 goals and providing 18 assists in 133 appearances for the club. In the 2023-24 Serie A season, he netted 17 goals and contributed four assists in 32 matches.
Veteran Nigerian journalist Lolade Adewuyi shared that the 25-year-old may have played his last match for Napoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium. “Victor Osimhen has played his last match for Napoli, all things being equal. After leading the team to their first title in 33 years last season, he bids farewell as we all await the big destination announcement. This summer transfer window will be interesting,” Adewuyi wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page.
Osimhen played for 26 minutes in the scoreless draw against Lecce, which saw Napoli finish 10th in Serie A and miss out on European championship qualification for the next season.
The Nigerian star has been strongly linked with a move away from Napoli, with Chelsea reportedly eager to sign him to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. Earlier reports suggest that Osimhen has a pre-agreement with Chelsea and is keen to fulfill his dream of playing in the English Premier League, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
While Osimhen’s representatives have not commented on the transfer rumors, the upcoming summer transfer window is highly anticipated by fans eager to see where the striker will go next.
