Barcelona Eye Super Eagles Star Lookman Amid Summer Transfer Plans

Barcelona have expressed interest in signing Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, who is expected to leave Atalanta at the end of the season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants admire Lookman’s talents but have placed him behind other targets like Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz in their summer wishlist.

Lookman’s potential departure follows a reported fallout with Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Tensions rose after the Nigerian forward missed a crucial penalty during the Champions League clash against Club Brugge, leading to a disagreement with Gasperini. Since then, the Charlton Athletic academy graduate has prioritized securing a move away from the Serie A side.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Lookman is set to leave Atalanta this summer. With his contract expiring in 2026, the Italian club may look to cash in on the African Footballer of the Year, valuing him at €30 million to avoid losing him for free.

Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022, the 27-year-old has impressed with 50 goals and 22 assists in 110 appearances across all competitions.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his club future, Lookman remains focused on international duties. He recently played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in Kigali, reaffirming his value to the Super Eagles.

As Barcelona aim to strengthen their attack next season, Lookman’s versatility and goal-scoring prowess have made him an intriguing option, even if he is not the club’s primary target.
