Frimpong Manso: A World Cup Call-Up Would Crown Benjamin Asare’s Career

Former Ghana international, Frimpong Manso, has thrown his support behind Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, suggesting that a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup would mark a defining moment in the shot-stopper’s career.

Asare, who recently made his debut for the Black Stars, kept clean sheets in back-to-back victories over Chad and Madagascar, quickly earning the admiration of fans and pundits alike. Manso, however, urged the goalkeeper not to rest on his laurels.

“He’s doing well, but for me, he’s just now entering the squad,” Manso remarked. “Asare has had two good games. I hope he keeps his form and momentum before the next international game.”

The former defender stressed that consistency would be key, especially with stiff competition for places in the national team. “There are other good players who are waiting for the opportunity and will grab it. So if you get such an opportunity and you don’t do the needful, you are likely to lose that spot.”

Despite his words of caution, Manso expressed optimism about Asare’s future, particularly if he maintains his current trajectory.

“Asare isn’t a young guy, so if he keeps up with his performance at the national team level and he is able to join the squad to the 2026 World Cup, his career will be very successful,” he concluded.

With the next international window looming, all eyes will be on Asare to see if he can cement his place among the Black Stars’ elite.
