Nico Williams stole the spotlight at the Estadio San Mamés on Thursday night as he helped fire Athletic Club into the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League with a commanding 2-0 aggregate win over Rangers.
The Spanish-Ghanaian winger was electric throughout the second leg of the quarter-final clash, constantly threatening down the flanks. With the tie finely poised, Williams delivered the decisive blow in the 80th minute, capping off a dazzling performance with a well-taken goal after a clever assist from Oscar de Marcos.
Athletic had already taken a first-half lead through a composed penalty conversion by Oihan Sancet just before the break. From then on, it was all about controlling the game — and Nico Williams ensured that with his relentless pace and creativity.
With four goals and three assists in 11 Europa League appearances this season, Williams has been instrumental in Athletic Club’s European journey and will be key in their semi-final clash as the Basque side continues to chase continental glory.
