Arsenal have opened final talks with Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey over a potential contract extension, according to Football Insider. With his current deal set to expire this summer, the Gunners are now eager to retain the 31-year-old, reversing their earlier stance of letting him leave on a free transfer.
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020, has attracted strong interest from European giants Barcelona and Juventus, as well as several Saudi Arabian clubs. Despite these suitors, the midfielder remains settled in London and is open to staying—provided terms can be agreed.
Senior reporter Pete O’Rourke revealed on the Inside Track podcast that discussions are ongoing. Partey’s impressive return from injury has been a turning point for the club. He has featured in 47 matches this season, becoming a cornerstone in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.
Arsenal notably struggled in his absence during their Champions League loss to PSG, underlining his importance. With the return leg at the Parc des Princes approaching, Partey is expected to return to the starting lineup.
While he’s inclined to accept a new two-year deal, Partey is keeping his options open, especially with growing international interest in his services.
