Konigsdorffer’s Double Delight: Ghanaian Star Fires HSV Back to Bundesliga After Seven-Year Wait

After seven long years of waiting, Hamburger SV is finally back in the Bundesliga—and it’s thanks, in large part, to a Ghanaian hero. Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer delivered a sensational performance on Saturday evening, scoring twice in a 6-1 thrashing of SSV Ulm at the Volkspartstadion to seal HSV’s promotion.

The 22-year-old forward, who has been a standout for the Black Stars and HSV this season, was overcome with emotion after the final whistle.

“It’s such a great feeling to have achieved promotion,” Konigsdorffer said, struggling to find the right words in the post-match interview. “We made the game exciting at the start… but then our hero stepped up: Ferro’s penalty save was a decisive moment. After that, we couldn’t be stopped.”

Konigsdorffer’s confidence was on full display as he described his second goal: “I saw the space for the chop and thought that I simply had to try it. It was absolutely the right call.”

With 14 league goals this season, including Saturday’s brace, the Ghanaian forward has been a vital figure in HSV’s promotion push. The team now has their sights set on finishing as Bundesliga 2 champions—with just one win needed against Greuther Fürth next Sunday to cap off a memorable campaign.
