Schafer and Addo Reignite Black Stars’ Unity and Ambition

After a turbulent period that saw Ghana miss out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a fresh wave of hope is sweeping through the Black Stars camp. Newly appointed Technical Director Winfried Schäfer has revealed his collaborative efforts with head coach Otto Addo, focusing on rebuilding unity and laying the foundation for a modernized, forward-thinking national team.

Tasked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president to support Addo and inject a renewed sense of optimism, Schäfer has embraced his role with passion and experience. “The president asked me to support Otto Addo and, as Director of Football in Ghana, to create a spirit of optimism and modernize football,” Schäfer explained.

The early signs are promising. Ghana has won its first two matches under the new technical leadership, a significant step toward restoring belief in the team. Schäfer remains realistic, acknowledging that the road ahead will be challenging, but he is confident that the Black Stars are back on track.

This month, the Black Stars will regroup for the Unity Cup—a symbolic four-nation tournament in the United Kingdom that brings together Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. The competition is seen as a stepping stone ahead of the resumption of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in September 2025.

With a renewed sense of direction and unity, Ghana’s football faithful have reason to dream again.
