Ghanaian forward Asumah Abubakar has officially parted ways with Brisbane Roar, ending a brief but impactful stay that helped breathe new life into the A-League side’s 2024/25 campaign.
The 28-year-old, who joined the Roar in February from Swiss outfit Grasshopper Club Zurich, made just 11 appearances but left a lasting impression with four goals and two assists. His arrival coincided with a late-season revival, with Brisbane picking up four wins and three draws in their final ten matches to avoid a last-place finish.
Known for his pace, power, and direct style of play, Abubakar quickly became a fan favourite and brought a much-needed spark to the Roar’s attacking line. Despite the club’s efforts to tie him down with a lucrative multi-year deal, the former Portugal youth international has chosen to explore a new chapter in his career.
His departure marks the seventh exit from the Brisbane squad this off-season, but his contribution in Queensland won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
