Young Forward Brings Pace, Strength and Goals to Steffen Baumgart’s Side
Union Berlin have bolstered their attacking ranks with the signing of promising forward Ilyas Ansah from SC Paderborn — a move hailed by club director Horst Heldt as a perfect fit for the team’s evolving playing style.
At just 20 years old, the German-Ghanaian talent arrives in Köpenick fresh off an impressive campaign in the 2. Bundesliga, where he established himself as one of the league’s standout young players.
“In Ilyas, we are getting a young but already very developed attacking player who performed consistently well last season,” said Heldt. “He brings pace, physicality, and goal-scoring ability — qualities we need in our game. We are convinced that he can take the next step with us and are delighted to welcome him to Union.”
Ansah was a key figure for SC Paderborn in the 2024/25 season, featuring in 33 of 34 league matches. He netted six goals and laid on six assists, keeping Paderborn in the promotion race until the final matchday. Despite narrowly missing out on the play-off spot to SV Elversberg, Ansah’s consistency and impact never wavered — drawing the attention of top-tier clubs.
Union Berlin head coach Steffen Baumgart now has another exciting option to inject speed and dynamism into his frontline, as the club looks to build a squad capable of challenging higher up the Bundesliga table.
