As the sun rises on Ghana’s much-anticipated return to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed quiet confidence in the journey his team has taken under his leadership.
Set to face defending champions South Africa in a tough Group C opener today at the Stade de l’Honneur, Bjorkegren believes the signs of progress are unmistakable.
“Over the last month, this team has grown immensely – not just tactically, but also in unity and spirit,” the Swiss tactician shared with CAF media. “We’re physically and mentally in a better place than we were just a month ago, and I know the players feel it too.”
Since taking over in January, Bjorkegren has overseen a rebuilding process, notching three wins in eight outings – a modest record, but one he insists reflects a bigger picture of development and belief.
Ghana’s Black Queens, returning to the continental stage after missing out in 2022, are determined to make their mark. Following today’s showdown at 16:00 GMT, they will continue their campaign against Mali and Tanzania in what promises to be a fiercely contested group.
