From Kotobabi to Global Glory: Celebrating 30 Years of Coach Sellas Tetteh’s Legacy

In the rich tapestry of Ghanaian football history, Coach Sellas Tetteh stands out as a monumental figure whose contribution to youth football remains unmatched. This year marks 30 years since he began his coaching journey, rising from the humble streets of Kotobabi with Kotobabi Powerlines, all the way to the top of world football.

He is the only coach in Ghana’s history to lead the Black Satellites to three successive U20 World Cups — in 2009, 2013, and 2015 — achieving remarkable success on each occasion.

In 2009, Coach Sellas led Ghana to historic Gold on African soil, defeating giants like England, Hungary, and Brazil. That unforgettable tournament saw Dominic Adiyiah claim both the Golden Boot (8 goals) and Golden Ball, while a majority of the squad transitioned to the Black Stars, helping Ghana reach the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals and clinch AFCON silver that same year.

After missing out on 2011, Sellas returned in 2013, guiding Ghana to Bronze by overcoming Portugal and Chile. Ebenezer Assifuah won the Golden Boot (6 goals), and Clifford Aboagye dazzled the world, earning the Bronze Ball.

In 2015, he once again qualified Ghana for the tournament, beating Argentina and Panama, before bowing out in the Round of 16 to Mali — proving his consistency and elite touch on the international stage.

Beyond trophies, Sellas Tetteh’s legacy is etched in the lives and careers he shaped — nurturing raw street talent into global stars. His work with national teams in Ghana, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone only cements his status as a true African football icon.

So we ask:
What are your favorite memories of the legendary Coach Sellas Tetteh?
Let’s honor a man whose impact continues to echo through generations.
