In a bold move to bring African footballers closer to their home fans, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a dedicated Infrastructure Department, a game-changing initiative designed to upgrade stadium standards across the continent.
Under the guidance of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the new department—nested within the Competitions and Events Division—will offer hands-on support to all Member Associations. Its mission? To ensure that every African nation can host international matches on home turf rather than being exiled to neutral grounds due to subpar facilities.
From building brand-new stadiums to revamping old ones, the department will handle it all. A Senior Infrastructure Manager has already been appointed to lead the charge, and CAF is calling on Member Associations to team up early with the unit. The goal is simple but vital: to meet CAF and FIFA standards without last-minute scrambles or disqualifications.
This centralised effort will also simplify inspections and offer consistent technical guidance, addressing a long-standing issue that has plagued many national teams. With this initiative, CAF is not just building stadiums—it’s rebuilding home advantage, national pride, and the spirit of African football.
