In a landmark partnership, telecommunications powerhouse MTN Ghana has committed a whopping $2 million to energize four of the nation’s cherished football teams — the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets.
The deal, officially announced by CEO Stephen Blewett at a glamorous launch in Accra on Thursday, will run for two years, ending in August 2027. As headline sponsor, MTN aims to not only brand the teams but also fuel their development and readiness for upcoming international battles.
“Football is a passion that connects the whole country,” Blewett emphasized. “MTN is proud to be part of the journey to take our teams to greater heights.”
The timing couldn’t be more critical. The Black Queens, fresh off their bronze medal finish at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, are eyeing the next continental showdown and the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Meanwhile, the Black Stars, still smarting from their absence at the 2025 AFCON, are channeling all efforts toward qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Coach Otto Addo’s side will regroup in September for World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali before closing their campaign in October against Comoros and the Central African Republic.
With MTN’s golden backing, Ghana’s national teams are setting their sights higher — and the nation is watching with hope.
