Stella Nyamekye Joins Fort Lauderdale United on Loan from Gotham FC

Ghanaian midfield starlet Stella Nyamekye has sealed a season-long loan move to Fort Lauderdale United FC from NJ/NY Gotham FC ahead of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League campaign. The deal remains subject to final approval from the league and federation.

The 19-year-old, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s brightest young prospects, arrives in Florida with the task of boosting Fort Lauderdale’s midfield depth as the club mounts a serious title challenge.

“We are very excited to have Stella with us on loan from Gotham,” said Fort Lauderdale Associate Head Coach Ali Rogers. “She adds a creative and dynamic edge to our attack, and her experience at both professional and international level will be invaluable to the group.”

Nyamekye’s career has risen rapidly in recent years. She first caught attention at Dreamz Ladies in the Ghana Women’s Premier League, where she netted 31 goals in 41 appearances. In December 2024, she made a high-profile switch to Gotham FC, debuting in the NWSL the following April and featuring in two matches for the American side.

On the international stage, Nyamekye debuted for the Black Queens at just 17 in 2023. At the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, she was instrumental in Ghana’s bronze-medal finish, scoring in the semifinals against Morocco and providing an assist in the group stages. She also captained Ghana’s U-20s at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, contributing two goals and an assist.

Fort Lauderdale General Manager Aly Hassan described Nyamekye as a “game-changing talent,” highlighting her creativity and technical quality as vital assets for the team’s midfield.

The young midfielder is expected to play a central role in Fort Lauderdale’s title bid this season, with fans eager to see her impact in the Gainbridge Super League.
