AFCON 2025: Johan Djourou Tips Nigeria Among Four Strong Title Contenders

Former Arsenal defender and ex-Switzerland international Johan Djourou has named Nigeria as one of the leading favourites to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Sportsblog247.com.

Speaking from Morocco, Djourou identified Nigeria, hosts Morocco, Ivory Coast, and Senegal as the four teams best placed to mount a serious challenge for the continental crown.

The former centre-back highlighted the steady rise of African football, noting the increasing competitiveness of national teams both on the continent and on the global stage. He also commended Morocco for their impressive organization of the tournament and their strong start as hosts.
“I think it’s very good,” Djourou said.

“African nations are progressing very well. Morocco are really doing well. It started well, so hopefully it keeps going that way.”

While praising the quality and depth of the Super Eagles, Djourou suggested that Morocco and Ivory Coast could have a slight advantage, pointing to recent successes and Morocco’s home support.

“It’s tough. Morocco at home will be tricky. I think Nigeria has got a card to play,” he added.

Djourou’s remarks come as Nigeria continue to impress at AFCON 2025, further strengthening their reputation as genuine contenders for the coveted African title.
