🇬🇭 Renard in the Frame: Hervé Renard Linked to Black Stars Job After Saudi Exit

Two-time AFCON-winning coach Hervé Renard is reportedly in advanced discussions to become the next head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars following his imminent departure from the Saudi Arabia national team.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has decided to part ways with the experienced French tactician after a series of underwhelming performances, despite successfully guiding the team to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A heavy 4-0 defeat to Egypt in a recent friendly further intensified pressure, prompting the decision to make a change.

Renard is expected to step down after Saudi Arabia’s friendly clash with Serbia, with a new coach likely to be appointed later in April. Reports suggest that Walid Regragui is among the leading candidates to replace him.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association has already initiated contact with Renard’s representatives as it searches for a new head coach following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

Addo’s exit came after consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany in the March international window, results that sparked widespread criticism and increased calls for change.

Renard’s potential appointment carries added significance, as he is no stranger to Ghanaian football. He previously served as assistant coach under Claude Le Roy during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, giving him valuable insight into the Black Stars setup.

Highly respected across the continent, Renard boasts an impressive résumé, having led Zambia national team and Ivory Coast national team to AFCON triumphs in 2012 and 2015 respectively.

His extensive experience with African teams makes him a strong contender as Ghana looks to stabilize ahead of the World Cup.

With time ticking and expectations rising, the GFA appears keen to secure a proven leader capable of guiding the Black Stars on the global stage.
