Rising star Bright Ede has finally addressed swirling transfer rumours linking him with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Arsenal. The left-footed, Polish-born Nigerian centre-back, who currently plays for Polish top-flight side Motor Lublin, has been turning heads across Europe — and the interest is heating up fast.
Chelsea are said to be leading the race to secure the highly rated 18-year-old, with talks reportedly at an advanced stage. The Blues see Ede as a long-term project and plan to send him on loan to their French affiliate, RC Strasbourg, immediately after signing. Arsenal, meanwhile, are monitoring the situation closely, with one of their scouts spotted at Ede’s final Ekstraklasa match of the season.
Despite the growing speculation, Ede remains grounded. Speaking to Polsat Sport on Sunday as Motor Lublin kicked off pre-season preparations, the defender made it clear that his focus remains firmly on the present.
“Tomorrow we start the preparation period. I try to focus on the present — football is a dynamic sport, a lot is happening, but for now only Motor counts,” said Ede. “I am here, I play here, and with this team, I want to enter the new season as well prepared as possible.”
The youngster, who scored on his top-flight debut against Stal Mielec on March 30, made six appearances last season and has become a prized asset. If the reported €11 million deal materializes, it will become the most expensive transfer in Ekstraklasa history.
Ede, who has also drawn attention from unnamed Bundesliga clubs, acknowledged the interest as a sign of his progress: “I’m glad that such information is appearing — it’s a sign that I’m developing well and my game is attracting attention. It’s motivating for me, but I keep a cool head. The most important thing is not to lose focus and continue to work hard.”
With his combination of technical skill, maturity, and a left-footed profile coveted by top clubs, Ede looks set for a big future — and possibly a big move in the weeks to come.
