The countdown to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) continues as Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren prepares to announce his final squad on Monday, July 1.
Ghana’s senior women’s national team is currently camped in Morocco as preparations intensify for the continental showdown set to kick off on July 5. Ahead of the tournament, the Black Queens have been sharpening their form through a series of friendlies.
After sealing a confident 3-1 victory over Malawi last Saturday — thanks to a hat-trick from Doris Boaduwaa — the Queens are set to test themselves further today against Benin at the Ziaida Complex in Benslimane. Their final preparatory match comes on Sunday when they take on arch-rivals Nigeria, a clash expected to serve as the ultimate litmus test for squad readiness.
Only after these warm-up matches will coach Björkegren reveal the final list of players who will represent Ghana in Morocco. The Black Queens are making a long-awaited return to WAFCON after missing out since 2018, and they’re determined to make a strong statement.
Ghana has been drawn into Group C, alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania, setting up a competitive group stage.
