Ghanaian players continued to feature on Europe’s biggest club stage this week, with Antoine Semenyo, Rahim Ibrahim and Kojo Oppong Peprah all involved in the UEFA Champions League.
The trio represented Ghana across three different matches, although their experiences were contrasting as the prestigious competition got underway.
Semenyo features in Manchester City victory
Antoine Semenyo was the first Ghanaian in action, playing 62 minutes as Manchester City secured a 2-0 victory over FC Porto.
The Ghana international was handed a starting role and was involved as City produced a professional away performance to begin their Champions League campaign on a winning note.
For Semenyo, the appearance represents another opportunity to establish himself on one of the biggest stages in European football.
Ibrahim faces PSG challenge
On Wednesday, Rahim Ibrahim featured for Slovan Bratislava in a difficult encounter against French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Ibrahim lasted 60 minutes as Slovan suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat against the reigning European champions.
Despite the disappointing result, the match provided Ibrahim with valuable experience against some of the finest players in European football.
Oppong Peprah still waiting for his moment
Kojo Oppong Peprah was involved with Fenerbahçe for their Champions League fixture against AS Roma but remained an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw.
The Ghanaian is therefore still waiting to make his Champions League debut, but being part of Fenerbahçe’s squad for such a major European fixture represents another step in his development.
Three Ghanaians, one Champions League dream
While the three players had different experiences this week, their presence highlights Ghana’s representation in Europe’s elite club competition.
Semenyo got valuable minutes in a Manchester City win, Ibrahim experienced the intensity of a Champions League clash against PSG, while Oppong Peprah continues to wait for his opportunity. For Ghanaian football fans, their journeys will be worth following as the Champions League campaign continues.
