Evans Yeboah, President of Ghana Badminton, anticipates that the 13th African Games will be a spectacular and engaging showcase. In an exclusive interview discussing Ghana’s preparations, Yeboah expressed confidence that everything is proceeding smoothly, with well-prepared facilities in Accra ready to host one of the most impressive multi-sport events.
Yeboah emphasized the importance of maintaining the beautiful sports facilities at Borteyman and Legon. He commended the Minister of Youth & Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) led by Dr. Kwaku Ofosu–Asare for their diligent efforts in ensuring the event’s success.
As someone with expertise in sports management, administration, accreditation, and volunteer selection, Yeboah is optimistic about the Games’ success. He acknowledged initial doubts regarding the event’s feasibility or potential relocation but highlighted the government’s commitment to hosting the first African Games in Ghana since 1965.
Yeboah shared that over 700 journalists have applied for accreditation, with expectations of more than 5,000 athletes and officials attending the event scheduled for March 8th to 23rd, 2024. Volunteers, particularly students, have shown a keen interest in contributing to the Games.
Expressing confidence in the LOC’s dedication, Yeboah mentioned the relentless efforts of various sub-committees working tirelessly to deliver an exceptional African Games. With 29 sporting disciplines and 49 nations confirming participation, including some of the continent’s top athletes, Yeboah called on the media to report positively and attract sponsors.
“It’s all about Ghana and Africa, so let’s be positive and believe in ourselves that we are capable and we can do it,” he stressed.
