Ghanaian footballers once again made their presence felt across Europe over the weekend, with several Black Stars and emerging talents delivering important performances for their respective clubs.
From the Premier League to France, Germany, Turkey, Spain and Italy, Ghanaian players contributed goals, assists and standout performances as another busy weekend of club football unfolded.
Antoine Semenyo was among the biggest Ghanaian performers in the Premier League. The Manchester City forward started against Coventry City and played a key role in their narrow 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
Semenyo provided the decisive assist for Erling Haaland’s winner, sending in the cross that the Norwegian striker powered into the net. The goal also marked Haaland’s 300th club career goal, while Semenyo’s contribution ensured another important moment for the Ghanaian attacker at his new club.
In France, Ernest Nuamah produced one of the standout performances of the weekend. The Lyon winger scored and provided an assist as Lyon defeated Auxerre 3-1 in Ligue 1. His impressive display earned him the Man of the Match award and provided a timely reminder of his attacking quality.
Nuamah was not the only Ghanaian attacker to shine.
Felix Afena-Gyan enjoyed a spectacular afternoon in Turkey, scoring twice for Iğdır FK in their 4-2 victory over Manisa FK. One of his goals was a stunning bicycle kick, giving the former Roma forward a memorable brace.
In Germany, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh provided one of the weekend’s most encouraging stories. The Ghanaian midfielder came off the bench for VfL Osnabrück and scored shortly after entering the game as his side defeated Eintracht Braunschweig 3-1.
The goal was particularly significant for Kyereh, marking his first professional goal in more than three years after a lengthy battle with injuries. His return to the scoresheet could be an important step in his attempt to rebuild his career.
Augustine Boakye also continued his impressive form in France. The Ghanaian attacker found the net for Saint-Étienne in their victory over Montpellier, adding another goal to his growing tally and further establishing himself as one of the Ghanaian players to watch this season.
The younger generation also had its moments.
Bernard Somuah came off the bench to score in stoppage time as Celta Fortuna defeated AD Ceuta 2-0 away from home. The Ghanaian youngster continues to make progress in Spain and is gradually emerging as one of the country’s promising young talents.
In Italy, Amoako Minta opened his scoring account for Gubbio in their 4-2 victory over Campobasso in Serie C. His contribution adds to the growing list of young Ghanaian players making their mark in European football.
There were also positive contributions from other Ghanaian players across Europe, including Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, who scored and provided an assist for FC Aarau, while other players featured for their respective clubs over the weekend.
Overall, it was another encouraging weekend for Ghanaian football abroad.
Semenyo and Nuamah provided decisive contributions in Europe’s biggest leagues, Afena-Gyan produced a spectacular brace, Kyereh marked his long-awaited return to the scoresheet, while Boakye, Somuah, Minta and other emerging talents continued to build their reputations. For the Black Stars, the performances will be closely monitored. With established stars delivering and a new generation continuing to emerge, Ghana’s pool of talent across Europe remains one of the country’s biggest strengths.
