In a groundbreaking transfer for Ghanaian women’s football, dynamic Black Queens forward Wasiima Mohammed has signed a three-year contract with Swiss powerhouse FC Zürich, becoming the first Ghanaian female player to feature in the Swiss Women’s League.
The 21-year-old attacker joins directly from Ghana Women’s League side Northern Ladies, where her eye-catching performances earned her a call-up to the Black Queens squad that claimed bronze at the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
FC Zürich officially unveiled Mohammed on Monday, confirming she will don the number 11 jersey through to 2028. “FC Zürich warmly welcomes Wasiima Mohammed and wishes her much luck and success,” the club stated in its announcement.
Mohammed’s journey began with Young Queens FC, before a standout spell at Pearlpia Ladies paved the way for her rise to Northern Ladies and now Europe. Her move marks not only a personal milestone but also a significant step for Ghanaian women’s football on the continental stage.

Ghanaian midfielder Nancy Amoh has taken the next big step in her career, sealing a move to Spanish women’s side DUX Logroño after a standout year for both club and country.
The 20-year-old Black Queens star joins the Liga F outfit from Ampem Darkoa Ladies, the Ghanaian Women’s Premier League giants where she rose to prominence. Amoh captured headlines during the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, coolly converting the decisive penalty in Ghana’s third-place playoff victory over South Africa.
DUX Logroño confirmed her arrival with a warm welcome, posting:
> “Welcome, Nancy Amoh, to DUX Logroño! We’re delighted to have you in our family and are excited about everything you’ll bring to the team. Your talent and dedication will inspire us to achieve new goals together. Here begins a new stage full of achievements and great moments!”

Her move not only strengthens Logroño’s midfield options but also adds another chapter to the growing presence of Ghanaian women in top European leagues.

Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has vowed to tighten his team’s defence before their decisive CAF Confederation Cup second-leg clash with Nigeria’s Kwara United on Sunday, September 28.
The Porcupine Warriors edged a pulsating 4-3 victory in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, a match that exposed Kotoko’s defensive vulnerabilities. Kotoko twice fell behind in the first half but rallied to a 4-2 lead through Albert Amoah’s 73rd-minute strike, only for Kwara’s Abdulraheem Shola to pull one back late on and keep the tie delicately balanced.
Reflecting on the game, Zito admitted he was surprised by the lapses at the back, attributing them to his players’ limited experience on the continental stage. “This is the first time some of them are playing in this type of competition. It’s not easy, but I’ve seen my mistakes and I have to rectify them before we go to Nigeria,” he said.
Kotoko need at least a draw in Ilorin to secure passage to the next round, and Zito is determined to ensure his side are ready for the challenge.

Buoyed by the away victory, the players have settled into Oyo State’s capital for an intensive training camp. Spirits are high as the reigning African champions aim to delight home fans and seal a spot in the third round of the qualification series.

Watford Women delivered a statement performance in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division, dismantling Billericay Town in a one-sided encounter powered by a masterclass from Ghana international Freda Ayisi.
The Hornets set the tone early at Vicarage Road when Izzy Fisher broke the deadlock in the 6th minute. Barely nine minutes later, Ayisi announced herself with a precise low finish to double the lead. Just before the interval, the 30-year-old midfielder showcased her technique with a spectacular volley, giving the home side a commanding 3–0 cushion.
Ayisi’s relentless form continued after the break as she completed her hat-trick, effectively putting the contest beyond the visitors. Anna Filbey added a late strike to cap a dominant 5–0 victory.
“I feel good,” Ayisi said with a wide smile after the match. “I’m happy to get a hat-trick. We got the three points so it’s been a good day.”
The former Charlton Athletic star and ex-England youth international now looks set for a return to the Ghana Black Queens ahead of next month’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana will face Egypt in a crucial two-legged tie as they aim for another strong continental run. Ayisi missed the 2024 tournament in Morocco, where Ghana secured a bronze medal, but her current form makes her a key inclusion for the squad.
