Ghanaian striker Kwasi Okyere Wriedt has opened up about the most difficult period of his career, admitting that his brief stint in Turkey left him with painful memories.
The 31-year-old, now leading the line for Alemannia Aachen in Germany, has enjoyed a football journey that has taken him across several European leagues. From his prolific days with Bayern Munich’s U23s, where he became a household name, to spells in the Eredivisie and the 2. Bundesliga, Wriedt has always been driven by ambition.
But in a candid interview with Liga3online, the forward revealed that his six-month stay in Turkey remains a decision he regrets.
“The six months in Turkey have hurt me,” Wriedt admitted. “I had certain reservations before going, but I still took the step. Looking back, the chaos was even greater than I could have ever imagined.”
He explained that constant changes in club leadership and coaching made it almost impossible to focus on football. “Clubs change their presidents just as quickly as their coaches. Amidst these power struggles, concentrating on the sporting side becomes virtually impossible,” he added.
Despite the setback, Wriedt says he has taken valuable lessons from the experience as he continues his career in Germany’s 3. Liga.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku continued his fine start to the season as he scored in Leicester City’s 2-0 triumph over Birmingham City in the English Championship on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Ghanaian winger needed just eight minutes to break the deadlock at the King Power Stadium, curling a stunning strike into the top corner to ignite the home fans. Leicester went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Although Issahaku was substituted in the 87th minute after picking up a knock, Portuguese defender Roberto Pereira struck moments later to seal the three points for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Issahaku, who also netted in Leicester’s away win against Charlton Athletic, now has two goals in four appearances this campaign—an encouraging start to what he hopes will be a breakout season.
Speaking after the game, the Black Stars forward expressed his joy at finding the net and credited the club’s medical staff for supporting his recovery and form.
> “It’s always amazing having this moment; it’s all about the team. I’m just happy, and we look forward now to after the break, and we go again,” Issahaku said.
“I just want to say thank you to the medical team and my teammates.”
Meanwhile, his compatriot Jordan Ayew led the attack and played the full 90 minutes.
The win moves Leicester City into third place on the Championship table with nine points. They next travel to face Oxford United in round five.

Senegal secured third place at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after defeating Sudan 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw on Friday at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
The Lions of Teranga, defending champions from the last edition, bounced back from their semi-final heartbreak against Morocco to claim back-to-back podium finishes in the tournament.
Sudan, coached by Ghanaian tactician Kwesi Appiah, struck first in the sixth minute when Mohamed Tia Asad rose highest to head home Abdel Raouf Yagoub’s corner. With goalkeeper Mohamed Abooja pulling off a string of brilliant saves, the Falcons of Jediane held their lead into halftime.
Senegal, however, regrouped strongly after the break. Their persistence paid off in the 58th minute when Seyni Ndiaye powered in a header from Ousseynou Seck’s pinpoint cross. The equaliser sparked a dominant spell for Senegal, though Sudan remained dangerous on the counter and continued to test goalkeeper Marc Diouf.
With no extra time in the bronze medal clash, penalties decided the outcome. Sudan faltered as Walieldin Khdir missed the target and Musab Makeen was denied by Diouf. Senegal, in contrast, were flawless, converting all four of their spot-kicks through Layousse, Kane, Cissé, and Guèye to seal a 4-2 victory.
Though coach Souleymane Diallo’s side fell short of retaining their crown, they extended their unbeaten record in open play at CHAN to 10 matches—a testament to the depth and consistency of the squad. Diallo praised his players’ resilience and maturity in bouncing back from their semi-final disappointment.
For Sudan, the loss was painful but far from shameful. Despite limited preparation and the backdrop of ongoing conflict at home, Appiah’s charges reached the semi-finals, eliminating Nigeria and pushing Madagascar to their limits. Their run earned admiration across the continent, with Appiah hailing his squad’s courage and resilience.
Attention now shifts to Saturday’s final in Nairobi, where Morocco will battle Madagascar for the coveted CHAN 2024 crown.

Ghanaian midfield starlet Stella Nyamekye has sealed a season-long loan move to Fort Lauderdale United FC from NJ/NY Gotham FC ahead of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League campaign. The deal remains subject to final approval from the league and federation.
The 19-year-old, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s brightest young prospects, arrives in Florida with the task of boosting Fort Lauderdale’s midfield depth as the club mounts a serious title challenge.
“We are very excited to have Stella with us on loan from Gotham,” said Fort Lauderdale Associate Head Coach Ali Rogers. “She adds a creative and dynamic edge to our attack, and her experience at both professional and international level will be invaluable to the group.”
Nyamekye’s career has risen rapidly in recent years. She first caught attention at Dreamz Ladies in the Ghana Women’s Premier League, where she netted 31 goals in 41 appearances. In December 2024, she made a high-profile switch to Gotham FC, debuting in the NWSL the following April and featuring in two matches for the American side.
On the international stage, Nyamekye debuted for the Black Queens at just 17 in 2023. At the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, she was instrumental in Ghana’s bronze-medal finish, scoring in the semifinals against Morocco and providing an assist in the group stages. She also captained Ghana’s U-20s at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, contributing two goals and an assist.
Fort Lauderdale General Manager Aly Hassan described Nyamekye as a “game-changing talent,” highlighting her creativity and technical quality as vital assets for the team’s midfield.
The young midfielder is expected to play a central role in Fort Lauderdale’s title bid this season, with fans eager to see her impact in the Gainbridge Super League.

Hot FM sports presenter, Ebenezer Amuzu, has waded into Ghana’s squad selection debate ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, insisting that Hearts of Oak defender Osei Asibey has done enough to merit a place in Otto Addo’s team.
The Black Stars coach recently unveiled his squad for the crucial clashes against Chad and Mali, with familiar faces like Mohammed Salisu of AS Monaco and Alexander Djiku included. However, the absence of in-form Osei Asibey has sparked debate among local football enthusiasts.
On his Hot Focal Sports show, Amuzu did not mince words, boldly declaring that Asibey is in better form than both Salisu and Djiku.
> “Looking at the Black Stars squad, Osei Asibey should have been included. He is far better than Salisu and Djiku currently,” Amuzu emphasized.
The Black Stars sit at the top of Group I with 15 points from six matches (five wins and one defeat) and will look to extend their lead when they face Chad at the Stade Olympique Marechal Idriss Deny Itno on Thursday, September 4, before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8, 2025.
