Prosecutors push for trial as football star claims blackmail and setup
Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi is at the center of a legal storm as French prosecutors seek to formally indict him on rape charges, potentially exposing him to a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
The case stems from an incident in February 2023, when the Moroccan international was accused of sexually assaulting a young woman at his home. While Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations, he claims the situation was a calculated attempt to extort money.
“They wanted to blackmail me, and that’s why we filed a complaint,” Hakimi stated in an earlier interview. “It’s going well. The justice system handled things rather well.”
Despite the severity of the allegations, PSG has stood by their player throughout the investigation. Now, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office has formally requested that the case be brought before the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court, advancing the possibility of a full trial.
⚖️ Legal proceedings are ongoing, and no verdict has been reached. Hakimi remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.

In a sensational start to the 2025 Leagues Cup, Joseph Paintsil put on a show-stopping performance, scoring twice and registering an assist as LA Galaxy cruised to a 5-2 victory over Club Tijuana at the Dignity Health Sports Park.
Despite missing an early penalty, the Ghanaian winger bounced back with unwavering determination to lead the MLS champions to a resounding win. His electric display earned him the Man of the Match award, voted by fans for his pivotal role in Galaxy’s dominant second-half showing.
> “It’s a great feeling. Missing a penalty can shake your confidence, but I’m mentally strong in situations like that. What matters most is the win. I thank God for the two goals and the result,” Paintsil said after the game.
The night kicked off with Brazilian forward Matheus Nascimento opening the scoring for LA Galaxy in the 17th minute. Club Tijuana quickly responded through Gilberto Mora just four minutes later. Galaxy regained the lead thanks to Gabriel Pec, sending them into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
The second half saw another equalizer from Mora, who notched his brace in the 59th minute. But from then on, it was the Joseph Paintsil show. The former KRC Genk star netted in the 65th minute to put Galaxy ahead once again, before setting up veteran forward Marco Reus for the fourth goal.
In the dying moments of the game, Paintsil put the icing on the cake with a composed finish in stoppage time—his second of the night—sealing a comprehensive win for LA Galaxy and opening their Leagues Cup campaign in style.

As East Africa hosts CHAN 2024, we journey through history to honour the icons who shaped the tournament.
Since its inception in 2009, the African Nations Championship (CHAN) has become more than just a football tournament — it’s a celebration of raw, homegrown talent. Designed exclusively for players active in domestic African leagues, CHAN has evolved into a launchpad for stardom, where unknown heroes rise to the occasion and leave an indelible mark.
With the 2024 edition — PAMOJA 2024 — kicking off across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, it’s the perfect time to turn the pages back and celebrate the seven exceptional players who were crowned Best Player of the Tournament in previous editions. These men didn’t just perform — they defined their eras and earned their rightful place in CHAN’s Hall of Fame.
2009 – Tresor Mputu Mabi (DR Congo)
The Pioneer Magician
CHAN’s maiden MVP set the tone for greatness. Mputu, with his masterful vision and flair, orchestrated DR Congo’s march to the title in Côte d’Ivoire. His leadership and brilliance turned heads across Africa and inspired a generation.
2011 – Zouheir Dhaouadi (Tunisia)
The Creative General
In Sudan, Dhaouadi combined elegance with efficiency. His intelligent play and goalscoring prowess propelled Tunisia to their first CHAN trophy. As joint top scorer, he proved that midfield maestros could also be match-winners.
2014 – Ejike Uzoenyi (Nigeria)
The Lightning Winger
South Africa witnessed a whirlwind named Uzoenyi. With pace, precision, and relentless energy, the Nigerian winger dazzled fans and scouts alike. His CHAN heroics earned him a surprise ticket to the 2014 FIFA World Cup — proof of CHAN’s power to elevate.
2016 – Meshack Elia (DR Congo)
The Finisher with Flair
In Rwanda, Elia’s feet did the talking — and defenders had no answers. His dazzling runs and lethal finishing brought DR Congo their second CHAN crown, etching his name beside Mputu in the country’s football folklore.
2018 – Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco)
The Goal Machine
CHAN 2018 belonged to one man: Ayoub El Kaabi. The Moroccan striker tore through defenses with nine goals, including a hat-trick against Guinea. On home soil, he delivered silverware — and a legacy.
2020 – Soufiane Rahimi (Morocco)
The Architect of Attack
Rahimi stepped into the spotlight as Morocco went back-to-back. With five goals and a creative spark, he orchestrated Morocco’s offense with poise. His name became synonymous with technical class and finishing instinct.
2022 – Houssem Eddine Mrezigue (Algeria)
The Midfield Maestro
Even without a title, Mrezigue was unforgettable. In Algeria’s near-triumph, he stood tall with calm authority, controlling games with intelligence and maturity. His performances earned him a deserved place among CHAN royalty.
As the sun rises on CHAN 2024, the stage is once again set for a new hero to emerge. The stadiums of Nairobi, Kampala, and Dar es Salaam will soon echo with the roar of fans and the birth of a new legend.
Who will join the Hall of Fame next?

In a bold step toward reimagining the future of African football, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has lifted the curtain on a brand-new trophy for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), setting the stage for what promises to be a historic tournament across East Africa.
Set to kick off from August 2 to 30, 2025, in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, the tournament—now proudly rebranded as PAMOJA 2024—has taken on a fresh identity. And nothing encapsulates that transformation better than the newly designed silver-and-gold trophy, unveiled in a powerful tribute to African unity and homegrown excellence.
The reveal, delivered in a sleek video presentation, featured legendary sons of the host nations: Victor Wanyama of Kenya, Uganda’s Denis Onyango, and Tanzania’s Mrisho Ngasa. Their presence wasn’t just ceremonial—it was symbolic. These icons of the game stood as ambassadors for the new face of CHAN, and for a trophy that now reflects the heartbeat of African football.
At the heart of the design are 54 fine lines encircling the trophy, each line representing a CAF member association. Crowned with a map of Africa at the centre, the trophy’s design isn’t just artistic—it’s deeply meaningful. It tells the story of a continent coming together through football—diverse in culture, united in purpose.
“This isn’t just a new look—it’s a new era,” CAF said in a statement. The trophy is part of a larger mission to elevate CHAN’s identity, celebrate Africa’s vibrant cultural heritage, and highlight the tournament’s core mission: empowering home-based players and nurturing local talent.
As the countdown to PAMOJA 2024 begins, the trophy now stands as a gleaming symbol of unity, pride, and progress—values that have always defined African football but now shine even brighter.
