When the clock strikes noon and the airwaves heat up on Asempa FM, one voice dominates Ghanaian sports radio—Obeng Kwaku Andy, affectionately known as Papa Myxtro. But before he became the country’s favorite sports broadcaster, Myxtro was making headlines on the pitch, not behind the microphone.
His story is one of rare transition—swapping boots for broadcast gear, and captain’s armbands for studio headsets.
Long before captivating listeners on the Ultimate Sports Show, Papa Myxtro was commanding the midfield for two of Ghana’s most illustrious football clubs: King Faisal and Asante Kotoko. His leadership skills stood out early, leading not just club teams but captaining the University of Cape Coast (UCC) football side and the Ghana National University Team at both the World and African University Games.
Myxtro’s football career wasn’t just about goals and trophies—it sharpened his instincts, discipline, and people skills, which would later become his greatest assets in the world of broadcasting.
His entry into media began humbly at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), learning the trade from the ground up. His dynamic energy and deep football insight saw him rise rapidly, with stops at FOX FM, ATL FM, and Hot FM, before reaching the peak of Ghanaian radio at Asempa FM—the home of Akan sports.
Today, Papa Myxtro is the trusted host of the Ultimate Sports Show, Ghana’s most popular sports program, blending live updates, expert analysis, player interviews, and razor-sharp commentary. His hard work paid off in 2024 when Forklex named him the Best Sports Show Host of the Year, cementing his status at the top of Ghana’s sports media scene.
What sets Myxtro apart is authenticity. His experience as a former footballer allows him to dissect matches with unmatched clarity—whether breaking down tactics, analyzing player form, or debating controversial VAR decisions.
At the core of his broadcasting philosophy is objectivity—no unnecessary hype, no bias, just clean, honest sports journalism. His goal is simple: inform, entertain, and empower.
Beyond the studio, Papa Myxtro keeps a finger on the pulse of his audience, actively engaging with fans via WhatsApp and social media. He inspires countless young people, proving that with dedication and resilience, you can rise from any starting point.
His personal motto, “Keep getting better,” fuels his mission to make the Ultimate Sports Show sharper, fresher, and more relevant with each passing day. As Papa Myxtro often says, quoting his idol Tiger Woods, “I love to compete. That’s the essence of who I am.”
And for his legion of listeners, his promise remains constant:
> “Every time I sit behind the mic, I give you my absolute best. Thank you for the trust—you’ll always get honesty, insight, and passion from me.”
From midfield general to broadcasting icon, Papa Myxtro continues to run the show—just on a different stage.

Former Ghana international, Joetex Frimpong, has opened up on what he believes is the root cause of the Black Stars’ struggles on the international stage in recent years.
Frimpong, who featured prominently for Ghana in the early 2000s and was part of the historic squad that secured the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification in 2006, says the current generation lacks the commitment that defined the teams of his era.
Speaking in an interview with Sikka Sports, the ex-BSC Young Boys forward, who scored two goals in 11 appearances for the Black Stars, bemoaned the lack of passion among modern-day players.
> “The difference between our time and the current crop of players was our commitment and the zeal to die for Ghana. The players of today are fond of their clubs more than Ghana,” Frimpong stated.
During his time, Ghana consistently progressed beyond the group stages in major tournaments. In stark contrast, the current Black Stars side has failed to advance past the group stages in their last three major tournaments and missed out entirely on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite these setbacks, there remains a glimmer of hope, as Ghana edges closer to securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America after six rounds of qualifiers.

Ghanaian-Italian defender Claud Adjapong has embarked on a new chapter in his football journey after signing for Serie C side Potenza Calcio. The 27-year-old right-back penned a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2027, arriving as a free agent following his departure from Ascoli Calcio at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Adjapong’s addition is seen as a major boost for Potenza, who are strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. His arrival brings vast experience, having featured in Serie A with Sassuolo and enjoyed spells with Reggina, Lecce, and Modena across various Italian divisions.
“Potenza Calcio announces it has secured the services of Claud Adjapong until June 30, 2027. Welcome Claud to the red and blue family,” the club announced via its official channels.
Born in Modena to Ghanaian parents, Adjapong previously represented Italy at U19, U20, and U21 levels but remains eligible to play for Ghana’s senior national team. With his move to Potenza, he will be aiming to regain top form, possibly reigniting discussions around an international switch to the Black Stars.
Potenza hopes the defender’s leadership and versatility will play a crucial role as they chase success in Serie C.

FIFA is reportedly considering a major shift in the hosting arrangements for the 2026 World Cup, with plans to move some matches from the United States to Canada. This follows rising global concerns over the United States’ increasingly restrictive immigration policies, which have attracted criticism from fans, human rights groups, and the international press.
The issue stems from tighter visa regulations that have made it difficult for fans, journalists, and team officials from several countries to gain entry into the US. Shockingly, reports suggest that citizens from up to 43 nations currently face travel bans to the United States. This includes fans from World Cup-qualified nations such as Iran, raising fears of empty stadiums and a muted atmosphere during matches.
These developments have prompted questions about FIFA’s commitment to its own core principles, particularly its stance on equal access, inclusion, and non-discrimination. Critics argue that continuing to hold games in the US under these circumstances risks undermining the tournament’s integrity.
While the United States remains the financial powerhouse of the tournament, Canada is being touted as a safer and more inclusive alternative. With its more welcoming immigration policies, political neutrality, and strong logistical infrastructure, Canada is fast emerging as a backup option.
FIFA now finds itself in a challenging position—balancing the need to protect its values with commercial interests. A decision on the potential relocation of some World Cup fixtures is expected soon, with Canada ready to take on an expanded hosting role if necessary.

Ghanaian-born defender Samson Baidoo is on the verge of sealing a transfer to French Ligue 1 side RC Lens from Red Bull Salzburg in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old centre-back, who has enjoyed a steady rise over three seasons with the Austrian champions, arrived in northern France to finalize his switch ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. According to reports, Baidoo is set to sign a five-year contract with Lens, with the deal reportedly valued at €8 million including bonuses.
Despite interest from two unnamed Premier League clubs who tabled higher offers, Baidoo chose Lens after consulting Austrian-Ghanaian defender Kevin Danso, a former Lens star who spoke highly of the club and its project.
Baidoo, who made his senior debut for Austria in 2023, is expected to undergo medical examinations before putting pen to paper in the coming days.
The highly-rated defender becomes the latest Ghanaian talent to take his game to the competitive French top-flight.
