As the Black Queens gear up for a decisive showdown against Tanzania in Group C of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, star forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has delivered a rallying cry of positivity and self-belief.
The dynamic attacker, who plies her trade with London City Lionesses, has been a bright spark for Ghana throughout their campaign, impressing in tough battles against defending champions South Africa and regional rivals Mali. Now, with a quarterfinal spot on the line, she’s urging her teammates to channel their inner belief.
“We still have the positivity, and we believe in ourselves. We just need to step onto that pitch and express it,” Boye-Hlorkah stated confidently.
No stranger to challenges, having played for Everton and Aston Villa in England, Chantelle is taking everything in stride—even the intense heat of North Africa.
“I feel the energy from my teammates and the trust from the coaches. My goal is simple: make myself, my family, and Ghana proud,” she expressed with determination.
The Black Queens are thriving on a mix of youth and experience, creating a vibrant, united front as they push for continental success.
“We understand the stakes, we know what’s required. To us, this pressure is actually a privilege,” Boye-Hlorkah added.
With destiny in their own hands, Ghana is just one step away from the knockout stage. A win over Tanzania on Monday night at the Berkane Municipal Stadium (19:00 GMT kickoff) will seal their passage to the next round and keep their championship dreams burning bright.

The hosts Morocco and the Copper Queens of Zambia have booked their tickets to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after crucial final-day victories in Group A action.
In front of a lively Rabat crowd, Morocco sealed top spot in the group with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Senegal. The decisive moment came in first-half stoppage time after a VAR review. Initially missed by the referee, Senegal’s goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye was adjudged to have struck Moroccan striker Ibtissam Jraidi in the face while carrying the ball. Referee Shamirah Nabadda, after consulting the monitor, awarded a penalty but opted for a yellow card instead of a red for Ndiaye. Yasmin Mrabet showed nerves of steel, slotting home her side’s third penalty of the group stage to ensure the Atlas Lionesses remained unbeaten with seven points.
Meanwhile, Zambia joined Morocco in the last eight with a 1-0 win over DR Congo in Mohammedia. Racheal Kundananji fired the Copper Queens ahead in the ninth minute, and despite the Leopardesses being reduced to 10 players after Falonne Pambani was sent off in the second half, Zambia held on to finish second in the group on goal difference.
Senegal, with three points, now face an anxious wait to see if they qualify as one of the two best third-placed teams. Morocco will next face one of the third-placed teams from Group B or C, while Zambia could be set for a heavyweight showdown with defending champions Nigeria—should the Super Falcons avoid defeat in their final group match against Algeria.

The final day of Group B action at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) brought drama, resilience, and heartbreak under the Moroccan skies. Nigeria and Algeria both punched their tickets to the quarter-finals, while Botswana’s hopes now hang in the balance.
At the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Nigeria’s Super Falcons were held to a frustrating 0-0 stalemate by a determined Algerian side. Despite dominating proceedings and creating multiple scoring chances, Nigeria couldn’t find a way past Algeria’s standout goalkeeper, Chloe N’Gazi, who delivered a heroic performance. Randy Waldrum’s team maintained their unbeaten record, finishing top of Group B with seven points, while Algeria’s solid campaign earned them second place with five points.
Meanwhile, over at the Pere Jego Stadium, Botswana staged a remarkable comeback against Tunisia. After falling behind early through Yesmine Khanchouch’s 12th-minute strike, the Mares roared back. Lesego Radiakanyo’s equalizer in the 66th minute set the stage for late drama, and Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse delivered a sensational stoppage-time winner to secure a 2-1 victory.
With the dust settling in Group B, Nigeria and Algeria join Morocco and Zambia in the last eight, while Botswana must anxiously await the outcome of Group C to determine if they advance as one of the best third-placed teams.

Once again, the dream slipped through their fingers.
Ghana’s U20 national team, the Black Satellites, have heartbreakingly missed out on FIFA U20 World Cup qualification for the fifth time in a row. Their exit came after a nail-biting 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Egypt in the quarterfinals of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Victory would have sealed Ghana’s long-awaited return to the global stage — a return they’ve been chasing since 2015.
But behind the on-field heartbreak lies a tale of struggle: unpaid allowances, squad disruptions, and the heavy weight of expectation. Despite the challenges, the young men fought with heart, leaving everything on the pitch.
Their journey may have ended in pain, but the resilience shown by these future stars is a reminder of Ghana’s unyielding football spirit.
