Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed strong belief that Ghana is on course to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following an impressive run in the ongoing qualifiers.
The senior national team of Ghana boosted their qualification hopes in March with emphatic back-to-back wins — a 5-0 thrashing of Chad and a commanding 3-0 victory over Madagascar. These results have propelled the Black Stars to the summit of Group I with 15 points, setting a solid foundation with four crucial matches remaining.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association media team after the recent Unity Cup, where Ghana finished third, Ayew voiced optimism about the team’s prospects.
“I think we have a very good chance of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” said the Leicester City forward. “The team fought hard for the points against Chad and Madagascar in March, and that has put us in a very good place on top of the table.”
However, Ayew remains mindful of the challenges ahead, emphasizing that qualification is not yet secured.
“It is not yet over. We have four more matches to play, and we are focused on winning them,” he stated. “We have Chad and Mali in September; it won’t be easy, same as Central African Republic and Comoros. But with this kind of mentality and team spirit, we will succeed.”
Ghana’s next fixtures in the qualifiers are scheduled for September. The Black Stars will travel to face Chad before hosting Mali, as they continue their quest to book a place at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Captain Jordan Ayew has underlined the Black Stars’ unwavering determination to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, vowing that the team will approach their remaining matches with a winning mentality.
Ghana currently leads Group I with 15 points after crucial back-to-back victories in March against Chad and Madagascar. With four games left in the campaign, the team is determined not to take their foot off the pedal.
Speaking to the Ghana FA media team, Ayew expressed optimism about Ghana’s chances of making it to their fifth World Cup but warned that the job is far from done.
“I think we have a very good chance of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” said the Leicester City forward. “The team fought hard for the points against Chad and Madagascar in March, and that has put us in a very good place on top of the table.”
Looking ahead, Ayew stressed the importance of staying focused.
“But it is not yet over. We have four more matches to play, and we are focused on winning them,” he said.
The Black Stars will face Chad and Mali in September before wrapping up their qualifiers in October with games against Comoros and the Central African Republic.
“It won’t be easy against Chad and Mali in September, and the same goes for Central African Republic and Comoros,” Ayew added. “But with this kind of mentality and team spirit, we will succeed.”
Ghana will be aiming to return to the global stage after their last World Cup appearance in Qatar in 2022.

For KRC Genk winger Christopher Baah Bonsu, earning his maiden call-up to the Black Stars was nothing short of a dream come true.
The young Ghanaian attacker was part of coach Otto Addo’s 23-man squad that competed in the recently concluded Unity Cup tournament in the United Kingdom. Ghana secured third place in the four-nation event, finishing with an emphatic 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff.
Though he didn’t score during the matches against Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, Bonsu stood out with his dynamic presence on the field, providing much-needed creativity and flair in attack. His impressive showing has not gone unnoticed, with many already touting him as a key option for Ghana’s future fixtures.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM, the 21-year-old couldn’t hide his joy at the opportunity to don the famous Ghana jersey.
“It was a great feeling getting called up into the national team. The call-up means a lot to me as a young player. Ghana is blessed with so many talents, so to make the recent squad means I am doing something good,” he said.
Bonsu’s performances at the Unity Cup may well have cemented his place in the Black Stars setup. With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers resuming soon, fans could see the exciting winger feature once again in Ghana’s colors.

After a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, Ghanaian midfielder Christopher Baah Bonsu is rallying behind the Black Stars’ mission to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The young star says the team is determined to restore the nation’s pride after missing out on the continental showpiece.
Ghana endured a frustrating AFCON 2025 qualification run, finishing bottom of Group F with three defeats and three draws from six games. The failure to qualify has left fans across the country disheartened.
Speaking to Sportsblog247.com during an interview, Bonsu, who recently earned his first call-up to the national team, revealed that the squad is fully focused on the World Cup qualifiers.
> “We want to qualify for the World Cup to appease Ghanaians after missing out on AFCON 2025. For now, we are focusing on the World Cup qualification,” said the 20-year-old attacking midfielder.
The Black Stars have so far shown promise on the road to the World Cup, leading their qualifying group with 15 points from six matches. The team will resume their campaign in September with crucial fixtures against Chad and Mali.
Bonsu has returned to Ghana for the holidays after an impressive season in Belgium’s Pro League, where he featured in 38 matches for KRC Genk, netting three goals and providing four assists.
As the next round of qualifiers approaches, Ghana’s young talents — led by players like Bonsu — will be hoping to spark a revival and give fans a reason to believe once again.
