Ghanaian football legend Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu is certain the Black Stars will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after their impressive performances in the recent qualifiers.
The Black Stars reignited their World Cup hopes with two dominant victories—thrashing Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium and securing a 3-0 win over Madagascar at the Al Hoceima Stadium in Morocco. These results, achieved during Matchday five and six of the qualifiers, have propelled Ghana to the top of Group I with 15 points.
Speaking on TV3, Agyemang-Badu, a 2009 U-20 World Cup winner, expressed confidence in the team’s trajectory. He particularly praised Jordan Ayew, who led the team as captain during these crucial wins.
“He [Jordan Ayew] is very calm, but very strong mentally. When you play with him, you understand his qualities,” Agyemang-Badu remarked. “Now that the captaincy issue is settled, and with the likes of Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan supporting the team, our path to America is clear—the job is done.”
Ghana will next face Chad and Mali in September during Matchday seven and eight as they continue their quest to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, has called for more opportunities for local players in the Black Stars, emphasizing their determination to represent the country and compete for positions.
Asare’s comments follow his impressive performance during his debut call-up in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. The 32-year-old goalkeeper was between the posts for the 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium during Matchday five. The team then secured a 3-0 win against Madagascar in the Matchday six fixture.
In an interview with Sportsblog247.com, Asare, one of three local players invited for the qualifiers, stressed that home-based players should be given a platform if they prove their capabilities.
“I am happy with the confidence they have in me and the support. I am happy that I lived up to their expectation. If a local player is good, he deserves a platform,” said the former Great Olympics goalkeeper.
“Sometimes people think once you are a local player, the national team will be difficult, but we are very determined,” he added.
Following his standout performances, Black Stars coach Otto Addo confirmed that Benjamin Asare will continue as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. He is expected to retain his position for the upcoming qualifiers against Chad and Mali in September.

Abidjan, March 25, 2025 – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) faces an unexpected crisis after Ivory Coast withdrew as host of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), just weeks before the tournament’s kickoff.
In a statement released by the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) on Monday, President Yacine Idriss Diallo confirmed the country’s decision to step down, citing an official letter from the government that described the “impossibility of hosting” the competition. While specific reasons were not disclosed, insiders suggest financial and logistical difficulties played a key role in the sudden move.
